I have a 10 year old letter, hand- signed by Hillary Rodham Clinton, White House stationary
Edited on Sat Nov-24-07 09:02 PM by liberalnurse
with water mark. It was typed then hand signed in black ink not auto-copied. She sent me a letter, addressed to me on the letterhead after I sent a comforting letter to her during the first day of the Bill-Monica stuff. I also have the White House stamped envelope.

What do you think it is worth?

I don't wish to sell just curious.

1. how do you know it is not auto-copied?
It's very hard to tell.

2. True enough but
the letter makes clear that it is responding to statements which I posed in my initial letter, the type appears to be from a typewriter and the tail of the "y" in Hillary signature slightly touches over top of the typed Hillary below.

4. when I worked in D.C. I had a friend who...
...worked in the WH correspondence office. She told me that a person could tell whether a letter from the WH contained an original signature by how it was mailed out. A letter with a real signature, reportedly, comes packed flat in an 8x10 or 9x12 manilla envelope with cardboard stiffener. I have seen two such letters, one from Barbara Bush and another from Ronald Reagan.

I hope your letter has a real signature, and the sentiments from Hillary to you are certainly genuine and personal. I just want to gently caution you that the autopen is a very convincing machine.

I just reviewed the Clinton stuff available on eBay, and there is a very brisk business in items signed by Hillary. There's no personal letter up for sale, but other things are doing quite well. That's your best bet for determining value -- to keep an eye on eBay.

8. I have a letter
to me from Janet Reno. This is how it
came to me. In a 9 x 12 manilla envelope
with a cardboard stiffener. Still have
it, it is from 1997. It is from when I
wrote to her wanting my right to vote given
back to me (I had a felony and a feebie file).
I did get my right to vote restored to me.

3. The highest Hillary signed item in ebay's completed auctions is a
book for about $430. I would think a signature on White House stationary, especially with the Monica subject matter, would be worth more than that. If she becomes president, it will increase even more. I'd try to get it authenticated as not being an auto-pen signature and hold onto it. This company might help you out -

5. Thanks
When I got the letter, I never thought about it being a collectable. It just happen to arrive on my birthday and my daughter decided to save it and frame it. It came in a legal size beige envelope which matches the stationary . I will have it evauated.

6. Is that the book from the edition of 1500?
I saw a signed book that was part of a special edition of 1500 copies, still sealed in shrink wrap. That was pretty cool.

9. I have one of those from Bill Clinton
I kept it but I am 99.9% sure it is an autopen. At least I got a reply!

10. I have a bumper sticker signed by Hillary
I know it's real because I watched her sign it. It was from her first senate run and I ran into her while antiquing in Salamanca NY very unexpectedly.

Last year I was lucky enough to be her county coordinator for her senate run, so I was able to collect more Hillary memorabilia.
