After this last episode, I believe I do give up. Got another negative from a seller (I paid and never heard anything). I'm done.

I heard craigslist. What is this? I went to www.craigslist.com and it wasn't what I was hoping it might be (an alternative to eBay).

What do you all recommend?

1. craigslist has a lot of stolen merchandise on it...

...according to the local police department as reported in a big newspaper article the other day. So be careful. Amazon.com has a marketplace. And I believe that some thrift stores have their own auctions going on, such as Goodwill. There are other places, for sure. For booksellers and buyers, there's abebooks.com, for example. EBay just has such massive potential market all over the world, that it's hard to find that kind of opportunity.

I deal primarily in books (old books). Maybe I'll see if Amazon.com or abebooks.com is interested in me (I've got a rather large collection). Thanks for the idea! :think: :D

As for eBay ... I've had enough for a very long time if not forever. :(

I'm done selling on ebay too.
Prices aren't what they used to be because of the powersellers and the mega-amounts of stolen merchandise filtering through--yet the fees are twice as high.
I had a bookstore but I sold my entire inventory to a friend who does amazon with great success.
I have also started taking my children's clothing to a consignment shop. All I have to do is put them on a hanger--no mailing, taking pictures or time spent listing. It's working out great for me.
I do have some dishes that I need to find a place to deal--I am thinking of selling to replacements.com.

the thieves are out right now with long knives. Yesterday, I was threatened by a seller I paid quite a bit of money to for an item that I think is perhaps a fake.

Today, I got a request for more money for an item I paid for over a week ago. The seller is trying to extort additional funds from me. Luckily, PayPal caught it and reversed it. *whew*

I want nothing else to do with eBay. I'll try the book places mentioned for selling as that is the bulk of what I have to sell. I really don't sell much any more luckily. Maybe this is for the best as I spend too much on eBay buying items I pften do not really need anyway.

I am glad I am not alone re: my departure from eBay.com. I am sick of the Power Sellers, etc. They never leave feedback and just rake in the money and that is the end of it. Ebay will be going down as buyers (my primary relationship with eBay) disappear leaving behind a bunch of Power Sellers with no one left to buy their CRAP! :mad:

Oh, btw ... this morning I spotted a large ice chest in my driveway. I have no idea :wtf: it is or why it is there or what is in it. Hopefully someone left it there during the night partying? :scared: I hope there is nothing in it! Yikes!

If you sign on with either abe or alibris, they will add your inventory to barnes & noble and other sites. Amazon is the most expensive.

8. I think you are right

as I mentioned above, the item I bought I believe is a fake. It sure looks like a fake. The seller is all p/o'd at me. Too f'n bad is what I say. I know I'll NEVER get a refund, that is for sure. :(

Screw you eBay.com! We here on the DU are rather quickly leaving a site that started out ok and has become the home for nothing but a bunch of crooks and thieves!

I buy books too. I noticed a lot of new sellers with a savvy style and they have a low feedback number. Did they re-start under a new name?

it was a print I bought from a "Power Seller". I'm pretty sure it is a fake. If you really want his user ID PM me and I will.

I think many of these new "sellers" are restarts, yes IMO. The best advice I have to anyone right now is to STAY AWAY FROM EBAY.COM!!!!!!!!!!!

As for the ice chest in my driveway, I kicked it out on the sidewalk up the block. A little girl came by and opened it and said it smelled like gas or something. :wtf:

I was tipped off to this site by the now late Cody's Books in Berkeley, CA where part of my collection is from. Before they closed they told me about this site that sorts through a feast of places for just about any book out there I have found.

You can avoid eBay easily by using this link to look for and buy books.

If you buy from abebooks.com be sure to go via the ebates.com link and you get 5% off I believe. You do eventually get a check from eBates once you have $5.00 coming to you. They send out checks every 3 mos. I've gotten close to $400.00 from them over the past 6 years. Recommend! Cost is zero to join ebates.

Anyway, these are some online buying tips I have in order to buy safely online from REPUTABLE sources.

Forget eBay and their thieves. We need them not IMO. :mad:
