World War 2 stuff on Ebay. Please help me!
I have what appear to be watercolors that my father in law bought from a street vendor in the Japanese city where his Navy ship docked notlong after VJ Day. The artwork is of several separate women in Japanese garb but with Caucasion eyes and light skin. These young women are beautiful but their round eyes are a bit unsettling in the traditional Japanese clothing. Obviously, they were done by local artists who were catering to the new conquerors of their country.

Has anyone seen anything like this on Ebay or anywhere else? I've thought of contacting the Smithsonian, in case they have a WW2 memorabilia section I could donate them to. I'd really like to know what they are worth, however!

2. Gee I don't know, but that's an idea. I don't think I've ever seen an advanced notice
for would be sellers and I think they must preselect their sellers far enough in advance to book experts on the sellers' offerings.

Right now, I think my best bet is info from places WW2 buffs visit on the Web. But Antiques Road Show would be great if I could find out in advance about it. Maybe I should start watching the show more regularly. I am fully retired now so I sure have the time!

Antiques Roadshow will be in Hartford August 23!!!

Here's a link to the web site. It looks like only furniture needs to be submitted ahead of time. But tickets may go fast.

5. think you might be barking up the wrong tree.
they are only tangentially related to wwII. although they may be watercolors, i think they are more likely prints. examine them with a 10x magnifier, see if they are made up of dots, or if there is indentation of the paper, around the edge, or where the color is strong. dots=offset printing, indents-lithograph.
if they really are watercolor, first, they should be on a heavy paper. second, the color should follow the bumps, pooling in the low spots.
