Having been through this before in 2004 with Wes Clark, I thought I would share my thoughts and feelings with you. I know it won't ease your pain and emptiness, but understand I know exactly how you feel. :grouphug:
I was a Draft Clark person who was over the top in love with the General from the day he announced. He was bright, articulate, humble -- many of the same qualities that I see this time in Joe Biden. I worked my ass raw for Clark, I was the grassroots coordinator for central Virgina, I traveled to New Hampshire 2x to work in Manchester. Went to all kinds of parties in DC. Spent thousands of dollars on campaign donations, donated hours, travel, etc. At first he was the media darling, but then after a few gaffes, the media put him on ignore or trashed him. It was so disheartening. He made SO MUCH SENSE, but the media only focused on Dean, Kerry and the like.
Then came Iowa, Clark chose not to compete, perhaps a fatal mistake. He placed 3rd in NH. Then the press got merciless, the wheels will come off by South Carolina that blowhard Tony Blankley said (excuse my French but I hate this fat pig to this day, I actually got into a fight via email with him, he was a dick!) The last time I saw Gen. Clark was in Lynchburg VA. He looked beat, run over. He was pale and thin, his lips were permanently chapped, his voice was shot. The fight had gone out of him. It was really sad to see, after the huge crowds in NH, to see him this way. The rest is a blur, he won OK, but then dropped from the race with a massive amount of debt. It took a long time to retire that debt.
My point is, Joe Biden is very smart. As much as we would all liked to have seen him continue, he struggled to raise funds. I for one, would not wish that campaign debt on anyone. Perhaps Joe saw that as a mitigating factor as to whether to continue or leave the race. I think he is wise beyond years for his decision.
Don't despair, we will see Biden in a Democratic administration, he's a super smart guy, and I firmly believe that any presidential candidate would be lucky to call him a member of their cabinet.
So my Biden buddies, here's the concession hangover therapy, rinse, lather, repeat:
Cry, play loud music and scream, ride a bike viciously, punch a pillow, take a long walk, get out in nature. It does help to get it out. AND, time fortunately heals all wounds.
Love to you all during this period of hurt.
