I've been researching the bankruptcy bill
I'm preparing my arsenal for the next "Mr. MBNA" wisecrack. Here is something interesting that I found. Only one senator didn't vote on the bill. Guess who that was???

Time is up!!!

Hillary Clinton

1. In my current state of mind regarding HRC, that means to me the bill was
probably a GOOD thing and NOT a corporate favorite.

3. Well I'd perceive it to mean
she didn't want to go on record "for" or "against" it, thus avoiding future controversies. I'm still amazed at these senators who don't show up for votes on major bills. This was a big one and was covered by the media for a long time.

4. It is the bankruptcy bill
and people keep bringing it up, often putting us in an awkward position. Well it turns out that like most bills, there was much more to it than we heard on radio and TV (from the left usually).

Now that I've read Biden's floor speech about the bill, it looks like a totally different animal. We all thought his support for the bill was primarily because his state relies on the credit card industry for jobs and taxes. According to Biden, it was an extension of his support for women. The new bill does not allow deadbeat dads to blow off child support debt and does not allow suspension of child support during bankruptcy proceedings. Women no longer have to hire an attorney and go to the proceedings to try and recoup unpaid child support, where they would have to wait in line behind major creditors.

The most shocking part of the old bill was abused women could not get restraining orders against their ex-husbands during bankruptcy proceedings. "...under the current Bankruptcy Code, that a proceeding for a domestic abuse restraining order is automatically stayed by operation of law.”

I am sure that as with most bills, he had to make compromises in order to get something for women he really believes in.

6. Oh yeah, I've run into that one a few times
but it generally doesn't get much traction when there are much bigger issues such as the Iraq War, healthcare, education, etc.

Anyone who is going to vote according to that one issue, probably shouldn't vote at all.

7. He also sponsored legislation to change the wording of Drug Abuse to
Drug Dependency or something like that (I'd have to go look it up again) and supported treatment for people with addictions which indicates a much more compassionate approach than those of RAVE would like to credit him with.

AND, he was for different sentencing guidelines for crack and powder cocaine.

I think the RAVE thing was representative of fear that parents have when they see their children getting involved with drugs. It must be frightening and leave them feeling helpless and this was a way to strike back. Maybe?

Remember when Tipper Gore was behind the Explicit Lyrics labeling on CDs? Kind of the same thing -- hoping to protect the kids.

I was about 14 and looking back i can thank her for getting that sticker on those albums. saved me alot of money searching for the albums with dirty words. Those stickers made it easy.
and the sentence difrence between coke and rock, I remember that. my ex was spending all my money on powder at the time. we fought about it. thats why she is my ex.

9. I am actually going to defend Hillary here - don't faint.
Bill was having his open heart surgery on that day. So she is excused.

Too bad it was the same day. She probably would have voted for it.
