Peru's 'Thatcher' wants gay police ban
Posted 2 hours 10 minutes ago
Peru says it will ban homosexuals from the police force because they damage the institution's reputation.
The law was proposed by interior minister Mercedes Cabanillas, who the Peruvian press have dubbed 'Thatcher' after the former Conservative British prime minister.
As well as banning homosexuals, the law also contains a provision to indefinitely suspend adulterers.
Opponents of the law say banning people on the grounds of sexual orientation and activity is unconstitutional.
