Another child custody fight, Argentine grandmother wins

Elian went with his father to Cuba, the Brazilian boy was sent to the States, now these two children will go live in southern Argentina. AP reporter had to throw in "the end of the world" crap. Just because Ushuaia is on the southern tip of Argentina does not mean it is a bad place to raise children.

Idaho Supreme Court says Argentine grandma to keep custody of orphaned Idaho kids


BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that two orphaned children will remain with their grandmother in Argentina, not with family members in California who also wanted custody.

The ruling means that Alden and Aliana Heiss will stay with Violeta Conti in Ushuaia, a region dubbed "the end of the world" by locals.

The children's parents, Karl Heiss and Marisa Bauducco-Heiss, of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, were killed in a car crash near Seattle last year. Aliana, who was 10 at the time of the crash, sustained severe brain damage in the crash; Alden, who was 6, suffered whiplash but has fully recovered.

The parents had handwritten wills granting custody to Conti, but paternal grandparents Fred and Anna Belle Heiss, of Malibu, Calif., sought custody. They contended Aliana needed medical care only available in the U.S. and that Alden would heal better from the emotional trauma if he was in a familiar setting.

1. Does a sphere have an end? If so Idaho is as much an end as anywhere else.

Ushuaia is probably a lot tamer place to grow up than Malibu. The parents probably had some reason to pick Mrs. Conti, and it must not be a bad place as Mrs. Heiss came from there.

2. It couldn't be clearer the parents believed their children would fare better in Usuaia.

His parents should honor and defer to the expressed will of the parents, regardless.

It does seem that city would be a far more peaceful community for two traumatized children who will need some close care and a new beginning.
