Resolution against US Blockade of Cuba Circulates in the United Nations

A declaration rejecting the almost 50-year-old US economic
blockade of Cuba, which was recently approved in the Summit
for Unity of Latin America and the Caribbean held in Mexico,
began to circulate in the United Nations today as an official document.


HAVANA, Cuba, March 8 (acn) -- The text was submitted to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon by the island’s permanent representative before the international organization, Pedro Núñez Mosquera, so that it can be distributed among the UN member nations, Prensa Latina news agency reports.

The document rejects unilateral and coercive measures against sovereign countries for political motivations and, in particular, Washington’s economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Caribbean island.

The resolution condemns the implementation of regulations that violate international law such as the Helms-Burton Act, and urges the US Government to end its application.

During the Summit for Unity in Mexico last February, the participating countries demanded that Washington complies with a series of successive UN resolutions calling for the end of the economic blockade of Cuba.

They agreed that this policy violates international law, causes enormous damages, hurts the well-being of the Cuban people and has a negative effect on peace and coexistence among the nations of the Americas.

I don't get it, how can people who sent spaceships to the moon can be so dumb. They should end the embargo, and send as many Americans over as they can.

You see, Fidel Castro will die eventually - or he'll be such a doddering old man he won't be able to rule by proxy as he does now, and as soon as this happens, change will come. The new generations, raised under communism, will have no illusions, they'll just want pragmatic change. So it'll be like in the other nations, where communism has been abandoned. I do hope they do it carefully and plan the transition properly, and avoid falling in the trap of becoming another Puerto Rico. And of course avoid becoming like Russia is today, they never got it right.

They gonna supply them with Euros to spend too ? If you don't understand that question then maybe find someone who either lives there or has been there.

I'm sure the Cuban government will take US dollars.

And don't forget, Cuba is very close to the USA, American tourists can go over cheaply, much cheaper then Europeans or Canadians.

Imagine, daily flights could go non-stop from major US cities. The Cubans would have to build new airport terminals, hotels, restaurants to deal with the new tourist trade. Plus taxis, buses, you name it. I could use the sun tan lotion franchise, LOL.

And Americans are so rich, their per capita GDP is above $40,000 per year. This means they have a lot of money to spend. And then, there's the pile on effect, once there are cheap charter flights from the US to Cuba, others will find it easier to go there, for example Japanese.

Cuba can be a money printing machine if it reforms itself via a real democratic process, which would lead to a US change of the trade embargo. It would be really good for them - it could be like a huge Cayman Islands.

3. Seems like almost the entire world is out of step with the US on this one. The reality is Cuba is

but a microcosm of what the US (CIA) has inflicted on almost every country in the world since WWII whose politics lean even a tad to the left whereas in general, corrupt, brutal RW dictators are just hunky-dory. :P
