Top Public Health Priority Programs Consolidate in Cuba’s Largest Province

Camaguey, May 18. - The public health is one of the programs conducted by the Cuban Revolution that offers essential benefits to the people in Camaguey, and these benefits have been possible thanks to the opening of new installations, the professional training of the medical and paramedic staff, and the effort of all workers employed in this sector.
One of this year's goals is to bring the medical specialties closer to the places where people live, in order to provide an excellence service of health. Of course, this entails a big effort not only by the direction of the country, but by the province of Camaguey, in particular.
An example of the recent changes is the refurbishment of policlynics, where large investments are being undertaken, in spite of the hardening of the U.S.-led economic and trade blockade on Cuba.
As part of this program of the Revolution, which started in 2000, several physical therapy rooms have already been opened in Camaguey's primary health-care centers.
Gradually, services of Ophthalmology, Optometry, X-rays, rehabilitation and diagnostic ultrasound techniques have been added. In addition, these centers provide urgent cardiovascular attentions and endoscopy.
It is worth mentioning that by the end of last year, new services of hemodialysis began to function. Likewise, intensive care units have been opened in municipality-based policlincis, thanks to which many people have been saved.
The Family Doctor-and-Nurse Program has achieved a satisfactory medical coverage in the primary health care system.
Today, Camaguey exhibits one of the lowest infant mortality rates ever, as a result of the toil of the personnel that works in mother-child program.
Ensuring the human and material resources to counteract the proliferation of Aedes aegypti mosquito is essential to keep the aforementioned results.
The goal of the medical personnel in Cuba's third largest city and in the rest of this province is to make the best use of installations, along with a suitable answer to the demands of the population.
As a side note and a shout-out for capitalism, while
communist Cuba is expanding health services for all, Miami-Dade's primary public hospital just cut hemodialysis services and has just left hundreds of poor patients (many are military veterans) needing dialysis to fend for themselves (fuck off and die).
