Cordoba: FARC will talk to govt without demilitarized zone

Opposition Senator Piedad Cordoba announced Tuesday that the FARC is ready to sit down and negotiate with the Colombian government without the precondition of establishing a demilitarized zone.

Cordoba said during an interview that the FARC would be prepared to sit down and talk with officials from the Colombian government, alongside Colombia's high commissioner for peace, in an area of the country decided upon by the government.

Cordoba also said on Tuesday, in an interview with leftist Venezuelan TV station TeleSurTV, that the Colombian government should respond to the FARC's offer to release hostages in exchange for the release of guerilla group's members in Colombian prisons.

"We must pressure the current government to make the exchange before leaving office," Cordoba said.

Now we know why Uribe was the Bush Cartel's handpicked "go to" guy in Colombia. But why he's on the outs now is another question, and the reasons could very bad--from the cover up of U.S. military atrocities in Colombia to the Pentagon's evident designs on Venezuela's oil. Uribe, for all his criminal associations, may be a touch too concerned about how he and Colombia are seen in Latin America. The CIA/Pentagon's next "go to" guy--Santos--really, really doesn't care. He would gladly invade Venezuela and kill all the leftists and support "full spectrum" U.S. military operations throughout the region. "No. 82" has clearly been dumped. Why? And I don't think it's because a third term would be "embarrassing" to the U.S. The U.S. government, and its real rulers, are not capable of "embarrassment."
