Caracas, 1 Aug (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Sunday called for a culture of dialogue and good relations among neighbors as principles that should prevail over the violence and militarism promoted by Colombia.
Following the escalation of the bilateral crisis after Bogota's accusations of a supposed guerrilla presence in Venezuela, Caracas has focused on seeking the path to peace and understanding, the Venezuelan president said.
"We have a supreme objective: to stop the war madness that has taken over Nariño Palace, and to prevent the flunky government of Álvaro Uribe, which is on the way out, from perpetrating its last and most heinous crime: to drag two peoples into a military conflict two peoples who know and feel themselves to be brothers in Bolivar," Chavez said in his weekly column, "Las Lineas de Chavez" (Chavez' Lines).
The dilemma is one of words or bullets, with the latter being the one that interests the United States, he warned.
