BOGOTA, Colombia — Colombia's military says 13 soldiers have been killed after entering two minefields in the northeastern province of Arauca.
Gen. Javier Fernandez says the 10 soldiers killed on Sunday were pursuing rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia who were trying to blow up electrical towers. Fernandez is the army's 7th Division commander.
A day earlier, three solders were killed in a minefield in the same province bordering Venezuela.
President Alvaro Uribe says 12 rebels were killed Sunday in the southwestern mountains of Colombia. Uribe says the 12 were part of the security cordon for rebel leader Alfonso Cano. The military did not show any rebel bodies.
