SAO PAULO (Dow Jones)--Brazil had a foreign-trade surplus of $943 million in the first week of August, the trade and development ministry said Monday.
In the Aug. 1-8 period, exports totaled $4.418 billion, while imports were $3.475 billion. Year-earlier figures weren't provided.
With the new figures, Brazil's year-to-date trade surplus totaled $10.18 billion, compared with a surplus of $17.75 billion in the same period of 2009.
Analysts are expecting a decrease in Brazil's trade surplus for 2010 from the $25.35 billion surplus in 2009. A weekly survey of experts conducted by the Central Bank of Brazil and released earlier Monday produced an average forecast for a 2010 surplus of $15 billion, down from $15.10 billion in the previous week's survey.
