Spain breaks up male sex trafficking ring
MADRID, SPAIN : A male sex trafficking ring was broken up by Spanish National Police. The criminal operation exploited at least 60 individuals mainly from northern Brazil.
This operation marked the first time that a male sex trafficking ring is disrupted in Spain. The criminal ring had been operating for several months in various provinces like Palma de Mallorca, Leon and Barcelona, according to El Pais.
The victims were around 20 years old and came from the Maranhao region in Brazil. Officials believe that between 60 and 80 people were exploited by the 14-member ring. The criminal organization provided palne tickets bought with fake credit cards to the victims who flew from Brazil to France and Italy.
After arriving to Europe, the Brazilian men were transported to different Spanish locations according to the needs of the sex trafficking network. The victims were forced to prostitute 24 hours per day. The criminals gave them cocaine, popper (an alkyl nitrite that is inhaled) and Viagra for enduring the abuse.
The clients of the organization were mostly men of all ages and social status. The criminal ring also offered narcotics to their customers. In Palma de Mallorca, customers were mostly foreigners who paid around Euro60 euros per half hour of services.
