AP story is based on early versions, death toll is now 18. Honduran cops said there is one survivor.

1. Heartless. And no, Honduran police, these poor men working in this factory for pennies

are not drug traffickers. Who on earth would believe that crap?

They will never be able to separate what they have done from the reasons people are demonstrating right now.
The whole world (or at least the sane ones) knows who's behind this.

I haven't check LBN yet, but I hope you will post this story there. A LOT of people who read LBN would be interested in it, and it's still LBN until 12 hours after it's published. (Put bolding on the time it was published, Sep 7, 2010 9:24 PM CDT to make it easy to see, if you want. I always do if it's an overnight story.)

This is absolutely overwhelming. These poor, poor people. Hope the killers will find swift justice, we can always hope.

3. Just saw your post re the massacre

Too late for LBN. Story probably would have been moved to GUNS or some other forum anyway. Have noticed that Latin American stories on LBN are sometimes moved to other forums. It just makes Latin American another Dark Continent for a lot of DUers.

Re the massacre; the shoe workers were killed by three men armed with AK-47s. No solid motive yet but the golpista newspapers are speculating it may have been gang related, as the area where it happened is considered "caliente" because of the maras (gangs). Just a few days ago four young women were found shot to death near the shoe factory, so it may have been the revenge factor.

Btw, La Prensa of San Pedro Sula is running an online poll asking whether there is a conspiracy under way to overthrow lobito. As write this 47 say yes, 44 say no. This is surprising because La Prensa is one of the two major newspapers that supported the goriletti golpe and later lobito's "election."

Last night in the Congress there was a very heated debate over lobito's government over-riding a decision by the supreme court and expropriating a televison channel from a weathly private businessman -- so that is the reason for the speculation that there is plan afoot to spirit lobito away in pyjamas.

Meantime lobito was away from the general strike yesterday, the massacre and the hot debate in Congress last night. He is in New Orleans looking for trade investments and scholarships for Honduran students, or at least that is the official explanation.

So, things are not well for the lobito.

4. I've noticed the disdain for Latin American news, too, rabs, it's so frustrating,

especially since so many of these stories DIRECTLY involve the United States, and the US American taxpayers' direct material contribution to those conditions.

No reason to give up, however, as the truth NEEDS to be heard, especially considering the lengths to which a right-wing controlled media will go to suppress it.

Interesting to learn so many Hondurans suspect something could be up, or time could be up for Lobo, too!

I guess he wasn't as evil a President as the coup requires! He seemed evil enough to me!

Of course, the military might be running things now, anyway, which is connected to the ruling elite, anyway, if I understand it even partially. Maybe he's just not part of the narrow, small elite, anyway.

Maybe they never intended to keep him, and he was just a tool to use for the appearance of a "democratic" election, after they destroyed the chance of a fair election well before it happened, anyway.
