Community in rural Venezuela blocks road to demand electricity repair
On Monday, September 6, 2010, women in the community of Las Casitas, in the state of Apure in western rural Venezuela, blocked the main road through town to demand restoration of their electricity. Three months prior a transformer blew, leaving the town with no electricity. After three months of broken promises by Corpoelec, the electric company for all of Venezuela, the women of the town organized, gathered a petition with signatures of all residents of the town to state their problem and demand an immediate response. This was stamped with the official municipality seal.

Like all utilities in Venezuela, Corpoelec is now state-owned.
