White House Drops Plans to Close Gitmo
THE Washington Post is reporting the Obama administration has effectively abandoned plans to close the Guantánamo Bay prison. Administration officials said they do not expect to secure congressional funding to close the prison and transfer remaining prisoners to the United States. One official said, "Gitmo is going to remain open for the foreseeable future." The White House also says it expects Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the self-proclaimed mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, to remain jailed without trial indefinitely. (Democracy Now)

1. Interesting how the U.S. government needs funding to NOT to do something,
when it doesn't want to do it. But it always has plenty of funding to DO things that it shouldn't be doing, like slaughtering a hundred thousand innocent people in Iraq, to steal their oil, or torturing thousands of prisoners randomly rounded up in Iraq, Afghanistan and other places.

"Funding," my ass. They have plenty of funding to do whatever our multinational corporate/war profiteer rulers tell them to do, whether it's conquering portions of the Middle East and Asia, or bailing out multinational banksters, or embargoing Cuba, or funding the hideous Colombian military to the tune of $7 BILLION U.S. taxpayer dollars (that we know about), or funneling $50 million (that we know about) to rightwing groups in Venezuela, through agencies like the USAID.

They have plenty of money to extradite death squad witnesses from Colombia to the U.S., and bury them in the U.S. federal prison system--out of the reach of Colombian prosecutors and over their objections--by completely sealing their cases in the U.S. federal court, in Washington DC!

And they don't have money to close the most scandalous prison in the world?!

What doublespeak! What crap!
