Prosecutor General seeks charges against former DAS director
Rabs has been sharing information on this ongoing circus in Colombia. After seeing this article, it FINALLY got through to me why Uribe's people are flying right out of Colombia, now, more than ever! Rabs has been hitting on this all along, I believe, and I was too dense to grasp it!

Prosecutor General seeks charges against former DAS director
Friday, 26 November 2010 10:10 Teresa Welsh

Colombia's Prosecutor General's Office will seek to present charges against former DAS director Maria del Pilar Hurtado for her role in illegal wiretapping, reports El Espectador.

The Prosecutor General's Office will solicit a hearing today with the Superior Court in Bogota during which the prosecutor general will present evidence against the former DAS director. Hurtado is accused of taking part in the illegal wiretapping of judges, journalists, activists and the political opposition. Colombia's Inspector General barred her from holding public office for 18 years for her involvement in the scandal.

The former DAS director is currently in Panama, where she has been granted political asylum along with six other former DAS officials allegedly involved in the wiretapping. The asylums have led to speculation that Uribe's closest aides are fleeing abroad to avoid incriminating former President Alvaro Uribe.

If enough evidence is shown against Hurtado, she will be called to a trial before the criminal chamber of the Supreme Court and Colombia will request her extradition from Panama.

1. I think more is being protected than Uribe...
...considering the U.S. government's other efforts to protect and coddle Uribe. And if this effort--this magical granting of asylum to so many spying witnesses against Uribe, in the midst of Colombian prosecutors' investigation--was a U.S. government demand of Panama, I won't need much more evidence that Uribe knows something about Bush Jr's authorization of U.S. military or U.S. military 'contractor' crimes in Colombia. Uribe seems to have the U.S. government over a barrel already.
