Honduras asks US, Colombia, and Spain for help in solving journalist killings
Last updated: Jan 7, 2011 Date published: January 7, 2011

President Porfirio Lobo’s government has asked for the help of the United States, Colombia, and Spain to help investigate the killings of ten Honduran journalists who died in 2010, El Heraldo reports.

According to EFE, Lobo asked the Security Ministry to “coordinate actions with international investigation agencies in friendly countries.” Last week, the Journalists’ Guild said that FBI agents were helping to investigate recent crimes against media workers.

Earlier this week, the vice-minister of security, Armando Calidonio, told Proceso Digital that none of the killings were related to the journalists’ work. However, the Committee to Protect Journalists says that three of these attacks were in “direct reprisal for their work.”

In 2010, Honduras became one of the most dangerous countries in the world to practice journalism, and international organizations have urged the government to do more to find and charge the perpetrators.

1. What a joke. The coup used violence of every kind up to and including murder
to intimidate the media.

Look at it from poor Hillary's point of view. Latin American leaders like Hugo Chavez, Lula da Silva, Evo Morales, Rafael Correa, Cristina Fernandez and Jose Mujica have demonstrated that the U.S. cannot bully and intimidate them. They have stuck together and their collective strength is amazing. So, what is a servant of our multinational corporate/war profiteer rulers to do? She has to try to put some cosmetics on the situation or she will get nowhere with these leaders. She also has corpo-fascist journalists to contend with, who don't mind if hundreds of leftists are murdered in Honduras, but can get real riled up when their own lives are threatened.

This directive comes from Washington--and specifically the State Department--to be sure, and that is where any shrapnel that falls on Lobo or his fascist buddies in Honduras--or on anybody else "important"--will be brushed off. Maybe they'll stab a couple of their fascist thugs in the back, and offer them up for sacrifice, then bury them in the U.S. federal prison system, if they know anything (as they have done in Colombia). But those who hired them will never be caught. And Hillary can peddle this human rights sham around, a bit, to those who are fool enough to believe that the U.S. supports "freedom of speech" and other civil rights in Latin America, or to those who need it as the "talking point."

And what'll you bet that "Reporters With CIA Borders" will help her lie about it?
