wikileaks cable Chavez asks Zelaya to publicly declare FARC not a terrorist organization
http://www.elpais.com/articulo/internacional/Cable/peticiones/Venezuela/Honduras/elpepuint/20110129elpepuint_22/Tes

1. Summary: During his January 16 visit to Honduras,
sources tell us that Venezuela President Hugo Chavez asked
Honduran President Zelaya to either remove the Revolutionary
Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) from any terrorist lists or
publicly acknowledge it as not being a terrorist
organization. As the GOH has no official "terrorist lists"
the announcement was made January 28 via a "leaked" press
article. We believe Chavez may have also asked Zelaya to
sign onto the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA)
or at least send a representative to the Sixth annual ALBA
Summit starting on January 25. Zelaya sent his outgoing
Foreign Minister Milton Jimenez, who claimed his mission was
to finalize Petrocaribe, but who sat in on all the ALBA
meetings and was acknowledged by Chavez as an official
observer. End Summary.

4. its pretty clear that they are US embassy cables
are you not familiar with the diplomatic cables released by Wiki??

believing the information is up to you. since that fat pig Chavez has a history of supporting the FARC, I'll side with the US analysis.

Chavez: Take FARC off terror list

January 11, 2008

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez: The FARC and the ELN are not terrorist groups.Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called Friday for Europe to remove from its list of terrorist organizations two Colombian groups -- including FARC, the group that freed two hostages Thursday in a mission Chavez organized.

During his televised State of the Union speech, Chavez -- an outspoken enemy of the Bush administration -- insisted Europe includes the two groups on its terror list only because of "pressure" from the United States, which also names them on its list of foreign terrorist organizations.

5. That was then...today Chavez has a different line
Today Santos is President, and Chavez knows he needs Colombia's exports because Venezuela doesn't grow much food - and it's growing less due to land nationalization and outright theft. Venezuela's western state, Zulia, is a hotbed of opposition to Chavez, and it benefits from trade with Colombia, which means he can't afford to rile them up more than he already has. Táchira is another state where trade with Colombia is important, but it's much smaller, and isolated.

Zelaya was a clown, and unfortunately he fell in the hands of people who used him, and tried to steer Honduras into the communist camp. This led to reactionary forces taking over, and the rest is history.

6. yeah, he gave up on his support, at least publicly, to the FARC
yes, with food prices going up Colombia becomes even more important. Santos will tolerate Chavez as much as possible since the trade relationship is quite beneficial to Colombia.

7. Trade between Colombia and Venezuela is win win
The Colombians will do well selling food and other goods to Venezuela. As the Venezuelan productive base decays, as it is bound to do as it falls under communism, the Colombians can increase their market share. If I were Santos, I would be improving the road network towards Cucuta and La Guajira. I used to live in Zulia, and we had large truck convoys coming in from Colombia clogging the roads, it would help if Venezuela helps by four laning some of the key roads to avoid bottlenecks.

It's better than "we've seen reports" that is so often the standard on this forum.
