The Colombian government announced on Friday that it will increase military presence on the border with Venezuela to counter the presence of guerrilla groups in that area.
"We know for sure that all the cocaine, produced in this region, is coming out through the border" with Venezuela, Minister of Interior and Justice German Vargas Lleras said in the town of Tibu in the border province of Norte de Santander.
The felony, according to the official, is committed by members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and the National Liberation Army (ELN).
"No less than 600 men from those guerrillas are present in this area," said Lleras, adding that the groups attacked oil infrastructure in that department to divert the attention of local authorities.
