Maduro: Chavez battle for his health must be everyone's battle (es)

2. That's because it's empty babble.
One wonders what is behind it, as in: is he really ill? This is the first indication I have seen of anxiety about his condition. But that could also be imaginary or some sort of PR bullshit.

3. "al presidente en esta gran batalla"

You don't need to understand Spanish very much at all to know what that says.

It's so ambiguous. I personally do not feel any "anxiety" in that wording. It's more like, to me, they're alluring to some other grand thing, as if his very essence is at stake, everything he's accomplished, his recovery would be "una gran victoria de todo nuestro pueblo." A great victory for the people of Venezuela.

Sounds more like flowery exaggeration to me, with absolutely no reference to his actual state. Chavez's states' "Emmanuel Goldstein" is effectively conspiracy-think. It could even be a ploy to get the opposition to bite, make celebratory overtures, and even post false news (they may not have a presence much on TV but they are very much alive in the newspapers).

We saw how well Cuba played up Castro's death rumors which turned out to be false, Chavez very well could be doing the same thing, by having his own foreign minister send out very ambiguous wording that could be read either way. If anyone bites they could have egg on their face (no offense to the OP since they did not editorialize).

6. Well, a few things:
1.) It sounds like he had some sort of major abdominal surgery.
2.) Given his age, that's no surprise, that health issues would come up.
3.) It would seem it was either planned before hand and kept quiet, or else some sort of medical emergency.
4.) Such surgery often requires extended convalescence.
5.) Him being such a "controversial" figure, it might be a cause of some anxiety to have him off-line for a extended period, same as any head of state.
6.) It could also be seen as a good opportunity to find out what his enemies are planning, a chance to get then to "try something", like you suggest.

4. Here's a juicy report: U.S. Sees Chavez in Critical State of Health in Cuba, Nuevo Herald Says

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is in a critical state of health after undergoing surgery in Cuba, El Nuevo Herald reported, citing unnamed U.S. intelligence sources.

The intelligence sources told the Spanish-language sister newspaper of the Miami Herald that, while Chavez isn’t in any immediate risk of dying, his situation is complicated. His daughter, Rosines Chavez, and ex-wife Marisabel Rodriguez were flown in a military aircraft to Havana in the last 72 hours to be by the president’s bedside, the newspaper reported.

The intelligence sources said they could not confirm that Chavez, who was last seen in public June 9, is suffering from prostate cancer as has been rumored in Caracas, El Nuevo Herald said.

Mentions Maduro 's ambiguous statements in the next paragraph.

Like I said, though, I still don't know what to make of this, it could be either way. I personally do not hold a position either way, so while I wrote a few paragraphs of rambling, it's all speculation. WTF.

5. OK, now the gossip and rumors are hilarious, forgive the source:

This guy is a right winger so I know the source will not be taken seriously here, and I don't say I take it seriously, but if it turns out to be true, then wow.

Venezuela dismisses Chavez illness rumours
Vice-president says country's leader is "recuperating to continue the battle" after undergoing surgery in Cuba.
Last Modified: 26 Jun 2011 08:53

Venezuela's vice-president has rejected suggestions that President Hugo Chavez is gravely ill, two weeks after he underwent emergency surgery in Cuba.

Elias Jaua said on Saturday that Chavez was "recuperating to continue the battle" and would soon be ready to counter his political opponents and media speculation.

"The national and international press are rubbing their hands and rejoicing about the state of the president's health", Jaua said.

"They know they cannot win the elections against our commander, Hugo Chavez, so they are always waiting for a situation like this to try to overtake us".

Chavez has been in Cuba since June 8, when he arrived there on the final leg of a trip that also included Brazil and Ecuador. He was rushed into emergency surgery after suffering sharp pain diagnosed as a pelvic abscess that required immediate surgery.

12. Given how Venezuela and others are spinning it I'm leaning toward ploy, now.
The original statement was too ambiguous to mean anything useful so it was intended to spread FUD so he could make a "miraculous comeback."

15. Some people think that
Analistas ven regreso de Chávez tras operación como estrategia electoral

http://www.el-nacional.com/www/site/p_contenido.php?q=nodo/216542/Naci%C3%B3n/Analistas-ven-regreso-de-Ch%C3%A1vez-tras-operaci%C3%B3n-como-estrategia-electoral

But some elements are a bit strange.

1. He's only made 2 (out of 13) Alo Presidente since late March

2. "Pelvic abscess" is an incomplete diagnosis. It is the consequence of something else... and apparently it can't be related to his knee problem.

3. He's been hospitalized for 15 days now and his brother, A. Chavez, Governor of Barinas state, told the media 10 extra days were needed. He hasn't spoken a single word during that time, only a few tweets.

Right now, people are only talking, and talking useless talk... prostatectomy, gonorrhea, radiotherapy, diverticulitis and other intestinal affections. But the truth is that we know too little to make a coherent hypothesis. We'll have to wait for the 5th of july, which is our Declaration of Independence Day, to get a real idea. Let's see if he assists and speaks with energy.
