Coffee growers are repelled with tear gas in Caracas
National Guard officers used tear gas to repel coffee growers who tried to arrive at Miraflores presidential palace walking through Francisco Fajardo freeway. Previously, the buses that drove them from the province to Caracas were held on their way, in Tiuna Fort.

Jóvito Villegas, a coffee grower, reported on the phone that they walked up to Plaza Venezuela, eastern Caracas. "They hurled at us tear gas and shot pellets; we meant to walk up to Miraflores presidential palace because they took our buses. We are lousy. We will try to recover our buses."

Villegas reported that about 400 growers came from the states of Lara, Portuguesa, Trujillo and Táchira to request the Executive Office to release the new coffee prices as they are placing their crops at a loss.

As Minister of Agriculture and Lands Juan Carlos Loyo did not keep his promise to publish the prices in the Official Gazette, growers decided to go to Miraflores presidential palace and meet directly with President Hugo Chávez.

3. Illustrates Chavez' hypocrasy on OWS quite well.
Fucking vile. Taking their buses was a poor move. I guess they didn't think these guys would still keep coming. :)
