Venezuelan economy grows 4.2 pct in 3rd quarter
AP – 1 hr 14 mins ago

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuela's economy grew 4.2 percent in the third quarter of this year as compared to the same period last year, the Central Bank said Thursday.

After 2.5 percent growth in the second quarter, the country's economy has now expanded 3.8 percent in the first nine months of 2011, the Central Bank said in a statement.

"Venezuela has entered a new growth trend," Planning and Finance Minister Jorge Giordani told a news conference, according to the state-run Venezuelan News Agency.

Growth in the country's key oil sector was lower, at 0.3 percent, while growth in the rest of the economy was 4.4 percent for the third quarter.

2. I like to see growth outside of the oil sector. This is good.
One of Venezuela's long term problems is its dependence on oil. Even if a good portion of the oil profits (about half) are now being used to benefit Venezuelans, with the money going to education, health care and other social programs, as well as help to small business, land reform and economic development and infrastructure--whereas before it was all going to Exxon Mobil, et al, and the rich elite (who let their country stagnate on all fronts, as long as they got their pockets filled)--STILL, the challenge is to diversity, both for environmental as well as long development purposes. This is good news, that other sectors have leapt ahead of oil in the current economic growth. I hope this trend continues.

3. "About half"? How do you calculate? Could you please support what you're saying with some numbers?
Can you show us the small businesses creation, the health spending, the results of the land reform in terms of occupation and agricultural production, some stats on infrastructure?

In other words, on what basis do you make such statements?

Anyone interested in the Venezuelan "revolutionary" process should be quite curious about these still unsupported allegations that you're expressing.

Please feel free to share with the rest of the forum the bibliographical sources or the links from the official agencies or research organisms that show all those stats you're referring to.

Please show us how could Exxon and co. take all the oil profits from Venezuela when they used to produce only about 1/10 of the Venezuelan oil in 1998 (all private companies together).

It looks like you're trying to reinvent a new history for Venezuela. For example, do you realize that Venezuela was the 2nd most equal country in Latin America during the 80's? The 4th most equal during the 90's?

4. She has nothing. Propagandists avoid that kind of depth, haven't you noticed?

7. I don't think she's a propagandist, spanza
Though she needs a healthy symbolic Venezuela for her beliefs to be strong. In any way, it's not like she lived here and needed to deal with the same reality.

Have you seen the new idea of incorporating the students to the bolivarian militias "to defend our nation"?
