DAS officials convicted of grave misconduct over wiretapping

Two officials of the now dismantled Colombian intelligence agency DAS were convicted for grave misconduct over the wiretapping scandal on Friday.

Luz Marina Rodriguez, former DAS operative director, and Bernardo Murillo Cajamarca, former anti-corruption director of the agency, were absolved of the following criminal charges: conspiracy, abuse of public office, and violation of communication.

Rodriguez and Cajamarca were involved in the infamous "chuzadas" scandal, where the DAS wiretapped many opposition politicians, journalists, or human rights activists.

The two former officials were convicted of grave misconduct, for which they face from three to eight years in prison, a ban from serving in public office, and fines from $12,600 to $50,400.
