Luís Vicente León, president of Datanálisis, indicated that consumers pay 44% more for food items that cannot be obtained in the formal shopping locales.
The indicator of shortages measured by Datanalisis of 71 shopping areas in Greater Caracas was at 22% and the products with the greatest shortage were powerded milk which was unavailable at 60% of locations, corn oil 40%, coffee 38%, meat 32%, and cheese at 32%.
"The strict control of prices with the Price and Costs law that applies to merchants and manufacturers will generate a strengthening of the black market for food", warned Leon.
