President Correa welcomes Chávez in Ecuador

Venezuela President Hugo Chávez Frías was received on Tuesday by his Ecuadorian counterpart Rafael Correa in the city of Manta, in Manabi Province, 320 kilometers southwest of Quito.

The Venezuelan Head of State arrived Tuesday at 11:21 a.m. (Ecuador's time), the Venezuela's state news agency ABN reported.

On this opportunity, Chavez will sign an agreement with Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa to organize a joint venture between Venezuelan oil state company Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa) and Ecuadorian state oil company Petroecuador.

The main purpose of this initiative is to establish the new refinery and petrochemical complex owned by Ecuador and Venezuela through their state oil companies, Petroecuador and Pdvsa. To this end, both companies will form a joint company called Refinería del Pacífico.
