Please join us for our Health Care for All/Single Payer conference call this Tuesday!

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

~NOTE SPECIAL TIME FOR THIS CALL~

8:50 p.m. ET, 7:50 p.m. CT, 6:50 p.m. MT, 5:50 p.m. PT

Phone Number: (231) 644-8000, Access Code: 968483#

Please do not announce yourself when you come on the call. We are expecting more callers than usual for this call, because of the special guests and the heightened public attention single payer is receiving. Please RSVP below.

Guests:

Dr. Michael Rachlis, Canadian private consultant in health policy analysis. He is currently leading the fight to keep Canada’s public Medicare system public, in the face of calls for privatizing aspects of the system.

Larry Rousseau, Public Service Alliance of Canada union executive and friend of PDA, has personal and professional experience with the Canadian Medicare system.

We expect a higher than usual number of participants for this. To help grassroots participation, please go to the PDA chat room a few minutes before you dial in. On the top right side of the dialog box you'll find a "gear" icon. Click on that and type in your real name so we know who we're talking to! This will enable you to type questions and comments to the moderator during the presentation.

Agenda -

1) Tim Carpenter will update everyone on recent events in DC. People can ask questions via PDA Chat 10 minutes

2) Tim will give a brief summary of how myths about the Canadian healthcare system, Medicare, are used to fight healthcare reform and single payer to introduce the guests.

3) Dr. Michael Rachlis will help PDA dispel the myths promulgated by the Right and allies of the private, for-profit insurance companies (such as the recent testimony by Dr. David Gratzer before the House Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions Subcommittee) about the Canadian health-care system. 15 minutes

4) Q&A with Dr. Rachlis. Submit questions via PDA Chat, and Dr. Rachlis will answer as many as possible.

5) Larry Rousseau will address the myths about the system from the point of view of a patient. He will also address the advantages of union negotiations without healthcare as an issue. 10 minutes

6) Q&A with Larry Rousseau. Submit questions via PDA Chat, and Mr. Rousseau will answer as many as possible.

1. The Link Goes to PDA subscriber page
and an old petition. Don't see anywhere to RSVP about the conference call.

2. If you have access to PDA chat, could you submit a two-part question for me?
1- PDA agreed to be listed as a cosponsor of the May 30th National Day of Action for Single-Payer, but never had a story about it among the stories on their front page, nor did they have it listed on their calendar of events. All they had was a logo in the lefthand column linking to Healthcare-Now!'s front page (not the May 30th action page) with no explanation.
2- They have no info or listing now for the June 25th National Sick-Out Day for single payer (a one-day general strike).
QUESTION: Why are they not using their website to organize for single-payer, if they support it?

3. I don't have access. I just saw that posted and put it here in case anyone wants to get involved.
