2. Since there is a 98% chance that Osama bin Laden is dead, Obama needs to come up
with proof that bin Laden is dead. I think Bush/Cheney know the truth. Investigate them and get them under oath to testify what they know. Kill two birds with one stone and therein lies the problem getting a prosecutor with the stones to do it.

10. Just claim the kill. What's Uncle Dick going to say about it?
"We knew he was dead, but kept churning out those really bad videos to keep the $$$ flowing."

17. The terrorists would just release videos claiming he wasn't dead regardless if he was or not
Heck, Bin Laden might even release a video himself if we claimed he was dead, or the terrorists might fake a video of him.

3. He has been a known asset since the 80's and its been over eight years since 911 and no peep.
Don't think he will be found anytime soon.

7. This would likely matter to many voters [sigh]

Whether he is dead or alive is of no consequence, however, because the movement he founded is healthy and growing in strength. He is not essential to it. The continued success of al Qaeda is the result of US foreign policy blunders.

8. Now why would Obama do that?
We'd be hard-pressed to find another Emmanuel Goldstein to replace Bin Laden. Hell, even the democrats have proven themselves to be no different than the republicans in exploiting his name for political points.

9. There is a reason why General Franks did not send reinforcements to Tora Bora
It was necessary for bin Laden to escape so as to justify continuing with the war, all the way to Baghdad.

13. Hard to predict what will happen
But I agree, clear and obvious evidence that he is dead or captured is worth about 20 points in the polls, perhaps a bit more.

18. It would help a lot, but I'm not buying the good times for the GOP in 2010 meme
The Republicans have spent the last year being legislative nihilists with no inspiring or even reasonable leadership. Even their political rallies are 100% pure, manufactured (in China, of course) astroturf, featuring the Republican base. And a very base base it is.

Even though it's gotten them nowhere, they promise more of the same between now and election day. Now they're going to field candidates who have quite a list of speakers to fly into their districts: Sarah Palin (who nobody except right wing ideologues thinks is even qualified to think about running for president), Eush Limbaugh, Orly Taitz, perhaps? How about Glenn Beck?

20. OBL gave up the ghost, al-Zawahiri is the best appearance of
success that can be produced. Too bad our best shot at getting to him just blew himself and 6 CIA agents up. That set the time-line back, for sure.
