With Cheney, Palin, Bachmann, King, etc etc.. just think about it.

If you thought the wheels were off during the Bush years, there would be no place to find solace anywhere if that particular group of right wingers get back in power.

I think about that, every time I hear them on TV or the lates outrage (Cheney) they are doing.. they are even now using a supposed news outlet (FOX) to proselytize against the Buddhists of all things.

Gives me the chills

27. Well, is that true or not?
That's the bottom line.

It may not be what you'd LIKE people to have in their minds as they go to the polls, but it'll be there nonetheless. Plenty of people around here reminded us ad nauseum about how they planned to hold their noses and vote for Obama in 2008.

If you would prefer to be happy and proud of your candidate, as you clearly are not with the President, then good luck to you in getting your alternate elected in the 2012 primary.

3. it's gonna happen
The wheels fall off at semi regular intervals.

Nixon - Reagan - Bush - BushII

maybe it won't be the players you mention but I'm sure at some point republicans will once again control the white house - and will likely at some point control at least one of the houses.

11. Peacetrain, I completely agree. If Cheney, Palin, McCain, etc.
were in power now, there's no telling which countries we'd be invading. If you read the Neocon's Project for a New American Century (PNAC), it clearly states that their mission is world domination. Maybe that would explain why we went into Iraq (in addition to the oil). I feel quite confident that Katrina would not have ended up the way it did if President Obama had been in office (or any Democrat for that matter). I doubt that upper level administration key players would have leaked Valerie Plame's name resulting in the deaths of Americans who were under her command. And many of the monitoring regulations were dismantled resulting in the financial crisis with the Republicans in power. When Bush did away with stem cell research, that put us way behind in matters of our health. Thank God President Obama believes in science and now we can conduct stem cell research. I remember the picture of him signing the order with Nancy Reagan at his side. I don't remember seeing Bush standing with Judy Sheppard, (Matthew Shepard's mother) like President Obama did regarding hate crime matters. Oh yea, and during the decade that Bush was in the White House, we had 0 job growth. I feel this past decade while Bush/Cheney were in power was a disaster.

Really the difference between democrats and republicans these days is like all star wrestling where you decide which posturing
meatheads uniform appeals to you most. So some of you are scared by the nasty talk of the republican meatheads but notice OBAMA has changed nothing as far as getting us
our constitutional rights back or fighting the fascism that has taken over the country. Its just theater to keep you from realizing your all just peasants and you live in THEIR world..
For now.

It is not true, for starters. If you want to review some posts regarding Obama's accomplishments, you can start with these:

which is probably exactly as it was meant to be, although I hesitate to impute intent into another's post...I don't necessarily agree with the full extent of your assessment of the situation, but we're definitely in the same ballpark. And a hell of a lot more than a "noisy few" are having greater and greater misgivings and doubts in a similar vein to yours and to mine. i.e....we done been had...AGAIN, and a listing of a few areas where Obama has done good things does not change the general corporatist/business as usual tone of his administration. And this does not negate my also agreeing with the OP that the U.S. being run by the lunatic neo-nazi republicans would be a disaster far beyond even the disaster taking place now.

26. Logic....and the hidden hand
The media is owned by the giant corporate few as are Congress and the White House. Corporate money rules. We all know this has occured.
We all KNOW this is a very bad situation. Yet we love to pretend it has minimal consequences and its business as usual.
Somehow bribed as hell democrats are more for us than bribed as hell Republicans. Some will pontificate in endless screeds about magical hidden hand accomplishments
that are supposed to show us nuts how much change is actually occuring. "Liberal" talk is allowed to happen because it helps maintain the illusion of americas marketplace
of ideas. Maybe even some window dressing change occurs. But NOTHING that smacks of real change gets by them. You will see if you do not already how much this new health care"reform" bill helps the health care industry
at our expense. We are all going to be forced to buy insurance from the very same criminals that have been trying to kill you and your relatives to line their own pockets.
YOU WILL HAVE NO CHOICE.
Yeah how are those dems working for you?

29. "Dems working for me?" can't think of many who fit that description
yeah, I know that's not what you meant, but thought it was a good opportunity to agree with you. I just also agree with the idea that the repubs in charge would be much much worse than the already pretty intolerable situation we're in with the non-neo-nazi wing of the single corporatist party running the show ( and I do mean "show", as in dog and pony, kabuki etc). I do think there are a few Democrats nationally ( VERY few) who are really on the side of the people, but they will NEVER be allowed anywhere near any position of real power or influence and if they get too close to becoming a real threat to the powers that be...well for starters, they should know enough to stay out of small airplanes...

13. I have to hope it won't happen anytime soon, but with the mess next year
We can't quite know what the numbers wil be. I think there is a very good chance they take back one of the two houses in the next four years (between now and 2014 midterms). If Obama were reelected in 2012, he could have to end up working with either a Republican majority House or Senate. Maybe if they make modest gains in 2010, we can pick up seats again in 2012 assuming things improve.

17. All the more reason for our party's leaders to stop alienating progressives, then
You can't put the honus of stopping a right-wing restoration solely on the left. You can't make it just about progressives swallowing the betrayals yet again. We've EARNED a right to expect more than the chance to vote for the lesser evil. The progressive wing of theparty was not to blame for the defeats of the past, and it doesn't deserve to be punished for them anymore.

true populism on a national scale is dead.
not that it was ever really alive - this country has always been ruled by the power elite.

it's always been a choice between the lesser of two evils: which party could give the average american the most crumbs.

25. I share your weary realism
Anyone who doubts you would do well to read a true crime story, also known as American history. "Age of Betrayal, The Triumph of Money in America, 1865-1900" by Jack Beatty, for instance...We're at the end of another long stretch of plunder by the ownership class. If there's a Roosevelt parallel to be drawn with Obama, it's more likely Teddy's presidency, whose progressive inclinations were always sharply drawn back by Congress, than Franklin's.

Keep the Republicans out of power.

They nearly destroyed the country during the Bush years, they are still working on it from the minority, and they will try again if they ever get power.

For all you libs out there... face up to the fact that you have a choice between Obama who will get you 80% of what you want and Repubs who will give you 0%.

If you pick the Republican side because you're oh so disappointed in Obama, you deserve the hell you are unleashing on this country.

32. And if the corporatist ever lost power we'd think we passed the pearly gates
I won't pretend there aren't real differences that still make it pretty clear which is the lesser of the two evils but the biggest one is just plain old sanity.
The actual endgame of corporate domination of the people and a two class society of just the wealthy and the poor is where sadly the "not a dime's worth of difference rings true but the path is quite different if for no other reason the wide gulf in sanity and at least the most basic incarnations of reason.

When contrasted with today's batshit Confederate party about everything looks like a good option. Hell, not a day goes past that these Republicans don't make me wish we still had ole Tricky Dick to kick around and it's not even a contest.
The bad and truly sad thing is that our Democrats have jumped headlong into the race and are moving swiftly in the direction of also making one wishful for crooks from a different time but no question they remain way ahead of the nutzoid theocrat national corporate confederate party.

So, yeah I gotta agree that a sane, corrupt, marginally secular corporate party beats a crazy, racist, theocratic one but it is equally true that it is beyond crucial that we at least become fully aware that the lesser of the two evils is still fairly fucking evil and truly start to fight to reverse that rather than meekly accepting the bad steadily getting worse as long as it stays within a can or three of a twelve pack in the areas of general mental stability and baseline usage and/or belief in intellect.

We the frog need to recognize we are in a pot of boiling water, maintain a presence in the camp that is somewhat less inclined to turn up the heat and certainly not as seemingly interested in transferring the whole works to a pressure cooker with plenty of clasps on a tight lid, AND get real on the situation so that we can at least struggle towards real solutions instead of killing ourselves and eating Raman to go a half step forward and two or three back.

We've hit snooze too many times and time is very short. We can not afford to go back to the dreams that we can survive much more of the Republican death march or that if we just patiently hang tough with the Democrats and take quarter and half loaves that slowly but surely we'll be on the path to the right track. I'd love to believe it but that shit ain't true, the truth is a veiled choice not of being fucked or not but with a spiked baseball bat or if we're ever so good a little dollar store lube.
