IF???? Mathews let loose with this bit of American wisdom last night as he continues his campaign to toughen our screening policies at airports. The Muslim guest reacted with the visible disbelief that any Iraqi, Afghani or Yemeni would display at hearing such a ridiculous comment. I used to argue with my Mother about the morality of the Vietnam War. It was clear that she viewed any conflict involving the US as not only righteous but apparently limited to having GI's hand out nylons and chocolate. It is sad to see Chris, who has been negative about the Iraq atrocity, slip into the comfortable American blindness relative to what our war machine is wreaking on native populations in our name.
