Bush-era Gitmo releases: A difficult specific PR problem for the WH

Obama is closely associated with the promise/effort/plan to close Gitmo.

Lots of people released from Gitmo are currently shooting Americans and planning attacks on Americans.

The folks who were released from Gitmo and took up arms against us were released from Gitmo by George W. Bush.


Substantial PR problem: All the headline-level reporting on Gitmo recidivism leaves the impression that people released from Gitmo by Obama are currently killing Americans.


The problem is that nobody associates "released from Gitmo" with George Bush. (For understandable reasons. The broad public face of the Bush administration was all about never releasing anyone from anywhere.)

No idea how to counter it. I guess polite (not strongly partisan) complaints to media emphasizing that as a matter of journalistic style any reference to a presidential action not done by the current president should be prominently identified with the name of the president involved.
