13. After the tax debacle came to light- the nomination should have been withdrawn
(Actually, based on the record he shouldn't have been nominated in the first place- but that didn't seem to be a concern with a quite a number of nominees or advisers).

5. They're on our side.
Let's get real. Geithner was a bad pick from the beginning.

There isn't anything wrong with holding Obama and Geithner accountable -- it is important for them to know that we know.

Because we do hold Pres. Obama responsible, when Geithner resigns, the President will then feel the pressure to appoint someone like Robert Reich as Treasury Secretary -- someone who is on our side and not the side of Goldman Sachs and the other predatory bankers.

That would be a "signal" to the base that
"people" were being "represented".

At least that's the way I'D read it.

First, Reich would have to explain
NAFTA to me, and why we were SO SCREWED
by something he thought would be SO GOOD
for us.

After he finished that, he could get to
work to fix this shit!

16. "What did Obama know and when did he know it"
Edited on Thu Jan-07-10 06:42 PM by ecstatic
Remember when a similar question was asked of Bush by my former congresswoman, Cynthia McKinney?

Remember the outrage and the calls for her to STFU--by both republicans AND democrats?

Meanwhile, Pres Obama continues to be called all sorts of names and accused of all sorts of crimes while the repubs smile and the dems are silent.

This is what disgusts me about the "liberal blogosphere" and democratic leadership.

I'm gonna keep on saying this: Good luck with Palin and McCain or Romney. Seriously, good luck. And do NOT even think about asking for my help in the future. Once Obama's term ends, I'm done with the trifling idiots who are more comfortable talking even if results NEVER happen.

So far the economy seems to be on the uptake. And the peope who could help---ie Krugman would rather grandstand than enter politics so the don't have room to talk. And I don't want people asking again for Elizabeth Warren again named as someone worthwhile I'll scream. This is off it's rocker when it assumes a lawyer is better than any economist.

27. The opposite side of Geithner,
meaning they are on the side of the people, democracy, traditional Democratic values, competency, the promises Obama made when he was running for office, economic recovery, truth, justice and the American way.

Geithner is the opposite of ALL those things.

Don't blame Ed and Huff for being right.

42. Are you guys now defending Geithner, after all the revelations about his corruption?
This is truly pathetic in a cosmic way!

This is from March 2009, long before we found out that Geithner told AIG to not disclose its bail-out payments to banks and financiers such as Goldman Sachs:

It was Geithner, as head of the New York Federal Reserve, who negotiated the AIG bailout last September. At that time, he could have sought to get bonuses repealed as part of the massive government loan.

43. You give Big Ed and Huff Post too much credit
Edited on Thu Jan-07-10 11:00 PM by zulchzulu
They are fairly meaningless in the scheme of things. Their opinion on the issues is about as meaningful, valid and powerful as the dried up Bic pens in a box in my basement.

They'd like you to think they are important or even interesting (and progressive), but again... back to the old dusty box I forgot about in my basement...

45. The Geithner matter is becoming a scandal that demands resolution
At issue is whether the 100 cents on the dollar payments by AIG to its credit default swap counterparties were a backdoor bailout. Most market watchers believe that AIG counterparties would have received significantly less on the free market, exposing them to tens of billions in losses instead of taxpayers (see CW story from March 2009 on this issue). So, in a very real sense, many believe taxpayers were defrauded by the government’s handling of the AIG affair. This latest revelation only adds to that belief.

Moreover, in regards to Tim Geithner personally, this revelation is extremely damaging. Not only did he, Paulson and Bernanke mishandle the Lehman bankruptcy which triggered the panic central to the financial crisis, but he has now been personally implicated in withholding – covering up, if you will – vital evidence on the looting of taxpayers to the benefit of financial companies, some of whom are not even domestic institutions. (See my definition of terms.) You have to see this in a negative light.

47. Tim Geithner knows where the bodies are buried
I see Tim Geithner leaving in the near future. He, Paulson and Bernanke (and others) got the backdoor bailout in order to stop the bleeding that would have gotten worse if others not knowing the lay of the land had been appointed.

Yeah, Paulson and Bernanke and Geithner suck. But they would be categorized as "keeping your enemies" closer at least for the First Act.
