2. Statement from Joe on his mother's passing.
Biden's Mother Passes Away

Joe Biden, Jean Biden

The White House just released a statement from Vice President Joe Biden on the death of his mother, Catherine Eugenia "Jean" Finnegan Biden:

My mother, Catherine Eugenia "Jean" Finnegan Biden, passed away peacefully today at our home in Wilmington, Delaware, surrounded by her children, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and many loved ones. At 92, she was the center of our family and taught all of her children that family is to be treasured, loyalty is paramount and faith will guide you through the tough times. She believed in us, and because of that, we believed in ourselves. Together with my father, her husband of 61 years who passed away in 2002, we learned the dignity of hard work and that you are defined by your sense of honor. Her strength, which was immeasurable, will live on in all of us.

Vogue did a lovely piece on the Biden women. It made me want to be in their family!

13. They are nice folks

But, honestly, if Vogue did a piece on the Manson Family women, it would be nicely done as well.

22. But Vogue wouldn't!
I like Vogue; I had a copy of both Vogue and National Geographic on a plane once, and with the way NG has been dumbed down, I realized that the article in Vogue are now longer than those in National Geographic......

27. Wow...

I used to subscribe to Smithsonian a while back. Is that still good?

(and Vogue would profile the Mansons if they were snappy dressers)

9. Joe had said his goodbyes and was walking to the car to head to DC as Vice President Elect -
He turned around and went back to his mom for another goodbye. They loved each other so much.

RIP, Jean. Our love to Joe and the family.

I am happy that she got to see Joe as vice-President.
As a wonderful mother, she deserved to be very proud of her son.

15. Great Woman.
Cute Stories:

The young Joe Biden had a stutter that garnered plenty of laughter and teasing nicknames from his peers. He walked out of his seventh grade Catholic school classroom, ashamed after a nun teased him in front of his peers for being unable to clearly read a paragraph. Jean Biden met him at the door of the family home and drove him back to school, where she confronted the teacher. “I could see my mother pull herself up to her full height, 5 foot 1.” Joe wrote in his 2007 autobiography, “Promises to Keep.” “My mother, who was so timid, so respectful of the church, stood up, walked over in front of the nun and said, ‘If you ever speak to my son like that again, I’ll come back and rip that bonnet off your head.”

Her point made, Jean Biden then ordered her son to get back to class.

She handled other childhood traumas with a similar spirit. When Joe lacked cufflinks to wear to an eighth grade dance, Jean fashioned a pair from nuts and bolts, ordering Joe to counter any taunts that came his way by saying “You don’t have a pair of these?” Sister Valerie Biden Owens later bought Joe a pair of silver cuff links from Tiffany’s in the shape of nuts and bolts.

17. Oh, how very sad.
Condolences to the VP and his family in this time of grief.

Perhaps, in her honor, (and our spirits), we should all call our mothers?

Mine is 81 y.o. and I'm off to the phone.

Mothers are so precious. :grouphug:

19. I wish I could! Mrs. Biden reminds me of my mother, who passed away at age 94
in 2005. She was frail, like Mrs. Biden. But there was this beauty about her, it's hard to explain...

26. I'm sorry.
My mother probably doesn't have long for this world. She's very frail as your mother was and weighs 98 pounds. We are always trying to get her to eat enough.

Best wishes to you and I hope that your sweet memories of her remain with you always.

with family around her, and isn't that what we all want, really?
