1. That's so sad
she seemed like a fantastic Mom. No matter how old you get you're never ready to say goodbye to a parent.

32. So true... R.I.P. to a strong lady.
She seemed like a lady after my own heart... this one's just really sad to me, even if she did live a good, long life. My sympathies to the family.

6. What a wonderful tribute, for a wonderful mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmom!
I'm glad she got to see her Joe as Veep and got to experience almost a year of that
before she had to leave us.

RIP to a grand little woman!

10. Here's how Joe described her
Catherine Eugenia Finnegan Biden is the soul, spirit, and essence of what it means to be an Irish American.

She is spiritual. She is romantic. She honors tradition, and understands the thickest of all substances is blood, and the greatest of all virtues is love.

She has taught her children, all her children in my neighborhood who flocked to her hearth, that you are
defined by your sense of honor and you are redeemed by your loyalty.

She is quintessentially Irish -- a combination of pragmatism and optimism.

She also understands as my friend Pat Moynihan once said, there is no "point in being Irish if you don't know that the world is going to break your heart eventually."

But she is more. She measures success in how quickly you get up after you have been knocked down.

She believes bravery lives in every heart, and her expectation is that it will be summoned. Failure at some point in everyone's life is inevitable, but giving up is unforgivable.

As long as you are alive you have an obligation to strive. And you are not dead until you've seen God's face.

Slán agus beannacht leat, Mrs. Biden.

11. what wonderful photos! so full of love!
It's a real joy to see how devoted they were to each other (which makes her passing even sadder... he must feel as though a support that's been there for him all his life has been knocked out from under him).

She must have been so proud of him... not just for being VP but for being such a good guy. And she must have been a wonderful woman. I'm so glad that she was so vibrant and healthy into her 90s.

during the campaign. Joe was leaving to meet Obama. He stopped as he was going to the car, turned around and went back to kiss his mom goodbye. He is such a devoted son and she was an inspiring mother.

My Grandma is 89. Her health is getting worse each year and she had a bad fall recently too. She cracked a rib though she is starting to heal up. I definitely need to go call her tomorrow, totally reminds me of Joe's Mom with all her determination and spirit.

40. I just love the story how she would tell Joe that the reason he stutters is because he has so much
to say. Alot of moms would be embarrassed to have a child who wasn't "perfect". Not Jean Biden...instead she gave him the confidence to overcome it. But she was right - he does have alot to say :P Which is fine with me, I love listening.

47. I just read a funny story in my paper (wow - I was shocked - they gave Jean Biden most of pg 3)
I guess when Joe was little at Catholic School, one of the nuns made fun of him for stuttering...

quoting my paper now --

it sent his mother to his school in a fury, her children in tow.
"If you ever speak to my son like that again, I'll come back and rip that bonnet of your head. Do you understand me?" she told the nun.

:applause: What a GREAT lady! May she rest in peace.
