California Senate candidate Carly Fiorina, a former HP executive, is showing that she’s willing to spend millions of her own money to help finance her campaign against Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.)
Fiorina announced she begins the new year with $2.7 million in her campaign account, aided by a $2.5 million personal loan. She raised $1 million in donations from individual donors and political action committees.
"Frank and I have invested in this campaign because we’ve been blessed and believe that 2010 will mark the resurgence of the fundamental principles of smaller government, job creation, and an unswerving commitment to the cause of freedom across the globe,” Fiorina said in a statement.
Last November, at a press conference with political reporters, Fiorina said she didn’t plan on loaning her campaign much money
“The short answer is time will tell. I don’t think it will be necessary. … I don’t have millions of dollars to loan to the campaign,” she said at the time.
If she doesn’t plan on loaning more money to her campaign, she’ll need to pick up her overall fundraising pace to compete in a state where it costs tens of millions of dollars to get a message out.
