Doesn't appear to be a problem with Democrats who are unhappy, as 8 of 10 still approve, according to this poll. The thing skewing polls, as usual these days, is the insane amount of idiot "we hate everything Obama does" Republicans. 13% is laughable. I find myself wondering if these polls are giving equal representation to the South, which, as the Research 2000/Daily Kos polls show, are completely off the rails about Obama. The rest of the country is still somewhat balanced.

Undoubtedly, this could be nipping at his poll numbers. I know so many who volunteered on
the Obama campaign--who are very unhappy. They are sickened by what has happened with healthcare
reform--or should I say lack thereof?

I have to say though--if I pollster called me (and I am terribly unhappy to the point of
being very apathetic about voting), I don't know if I'd be able to pull the "disapproval"
lever just yet.

As pissed as I am--I am waiting to see what is next. I imagine that many Progressives
are stating "disapprove", but I bet there are many hangers on--who could sway a poll like
this by about 10 percentage points. If Obama doesn't start kow towing to those who brought
him to the dance--instead of the corporations--those poll numbers will sink farther.

I have been outspokenly critical of Obama's laissez-faire attitude toward health care reform, his further shitting on habeas corpus, his further war making, his reversals and inaction on LGBT issues, and his complete dismissal of the idea of legalizing marijuana, but I do not feel "happy" that his poll numbers are dropping, except insofar as it might be a wake-up call to him. No, I feel only sadness that, with the huge mandate for change Obama was handed, in certain areas he has been a colossal disappointment. The opportunity he was handed has, in certain ways, been flushed down the toilet, and first-time young voters who might have been further energized by implementation of the mandate for change are becoming apathetic again and Independents (which I now am) are drifting away. This is a distinct threat to the Democrats and makes Republican victories possible.

I voted for him BECAUSE I have believed in the values of the Democratic Party since I could first vote, in 1964, and have voted straight Democrat in every election since, not because, in some strange other dimension, I wanted the Democrats to "fail." It might give you some kind of perverse pleasure to characterize Obama's critics as "haters" who "celebrate" when his poll numbers slide, and you can close ranks with the other astroturfers who are pounding out similar inanities, but your moronic opinion of DUers who don't go along with the status quo acceptance of everything Obama is off the mark and just reflects on YOU, not on "DU". So kindly stuff a sock in it.

I know this is complicated but try to keep up.

If the president is doing a bad job and catering to corporations, then his ratings should go down. It doesn't matter if he told us he was a Democrat or Republican. If he is behaving like a Republican he should lose poll numbers.

That is unless its just important for you to have a Democrat in office regardless of the job he's doing or who he's supporting. If all that matters for you is that the guy who looks the dreamiest to you is in office, then this is a bad day for you.

Now if Obama changes course and begins to act like a Democrat then I'm willing to bet his numbers go up.

This would be worrisome if it was January 2012. But considering it's January 2010, only one year after he took over the mess that Bush and his ilk left us, I'm not surprised. But the "I hate everything Obama has done" stuff bums me out much more than polls. I don't love it all, but the vitriol really confuses me. Oh well. Numbers change. Plenty of time (since I feel he is making a difference, if not enough yet, I expect the numbers to improve).

What a bunch of lockstepping goons. The more I see numbers like that 13%, the more convinced I am that all the moderate Republicans have gone indy.

Which is why the indies appear to be leaning more rightward.

Which is why, when the elections come and go, I'm convinced it will all turn out to be a shell game. There will still be more Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters. I suspect they've just gamed the numbers by shifting the same group of boneheads out of the Republican column and into the independent column, while leaving the all-over percentages in the pool (Dems/Reps/Indies) the same. I don't believe there are MORE Republican voters, I just think it seems that way since the indie pool is being taken over by disaffected GOPers.

We'll see. That's my suspicion - and my hope - so only time will tell.

Unusual for a media outlet not to identify its pollster - or are they doing it themselves.

The numbers you report are accounted for the fact that CBS News only weights 30% of the public as being Democrats.

They also use a rather low number for respondents.
