Unless the President has created a Department of Bad Assedness and I wasn't aware of it.

8. He did much of it before taking that position
The question is - Is he the best person to put in place the real safeguards and transparency to avoid a similar crisis. It seems there are still credit default swaps being sold. Are they adequately backed up by equity?

7. I would like to say Geitner
but wonder if it would take too much political capital, after Obama fought to get him in in spite of beyond lame explanations for why he didn't pay the payroll taxes that he was suppose to pay - given the organization even grossed up his income assuming he would do so. The argument was that he was uniquely qualified.

It is clear that he did an excellent job both as head of the NY Fed and now ...... for the banks. What is very clear now is that he did safe the banks and investment firms from their completely irresponsible gambles. It really is stunning that when AIG was bailed out, the US government (Bernanke and Paulson as well as Geitner) did not at least demand that all buyers of credit swaps settle for some percent - even a high one like 90% rather than 100%.

It would seem that an honest explanation of what happened and the guarantee that the US would pay 90% would have been sufficient to keep bank's values up. There is something wrong with Goldman Sacks and others getting 100% of their money back, while the economy has hurt so many so badly.

11. Obama Should Leave
Edited on Thu Jan-14-10 11:08 AM by timzi
I have given up on him after having voted for him & contributed to his campaign.

More useless war. More corporate welfare without conditions. Health care reform that
causes a 200% rise in health insurance stocks in less than a year. It's all
corporatism.
