Why is the Corporate Media on Television stumping for Brown in MA?
Edited on Fri Jan-15-10 04:16 PM by FrenchieCat
Why are they only citing the poll that shows Brown ahead, but not the one where Coakley is ahead?

One Massachusetts Poll That Democrats Shouldn't Panic About

Worry about Suffolk. Worry about what PPP and Rasmussen are going to have to say over the weekend. But for the love of God, don't worry about the Pajamas Media poll which reports a 15 point lead for Scott Brown, which I'm not going to do the favor of posting a link to.

The poll was conducted by a firm connected with the Black Rock Group, which bills itself as a "strategic communications and public affairs firm" and whose chief spokesman/strategist, Carl Forti, just so happens to be the spokesman for this polling firm that nobody has ever heard of and just so happens (as David Dayen dutifully reports) to be the spokesman for a big pharma lobbying group that's pushed the death panels meme and just so happens to be the lead PR flak for Pajamas Media.

The polling firm also has almost no track record and the one poll they did issue showed New Hampshire Governor John Lynch with just a 44/38 (+6) approval rating whereas every other pollster in that state shows Lynch at between a +20 and a +43. So, if you account for their roughly 25-point GOP house effect, a poll showing Martha Coakley only 15 points down might be just about the best news she's gotten all week.

Why are they talking as though only Brown is raising a lot of money, even though Coakley is matching him?

Why are they acting like the race is lost for Coakley, and literally building momentum for Brown?

What is in it for them?

4. Is it good business or is it that the Corporate media is the mouthpiece
of the GOP?

8. What's in it for them?
Hours and hours of how the Dems are in trouble and the President has lost his mojo - enough angst to get them to the next election cycle.

10. A STORY is in it for them. They love to develop a narrative and ignore anything that doesn't
support it. They did the same with polls of Obama's approval ratings.

11. You've got it backwards.
It's the liberal media that wants to see Brown win so that we can scrap the current health care bill and get a single payer bill that kills the insurance companies passed instead. It all starts to make sense if you just combine Limbaugh's lunacy with DU's and find the truth in between.

12. Because even 'librul' media outlets are RW outlets now.
The other night, driving home, I was listening to CSPAN radio. A panel was talking about the Democratic party, what they were doing right, or wrong, and what all that means.

Problem is, not a SINGLE person on the panel was a Democrat. Every person had some reason or another to cast dems, and Democratic chances, into the worst possible light. It's the kind of segment I expect from Fox news.

But I wasn't surprised at all. Why? Because a couple months ago I heard a very similar segment, with similar pro-RW bias, on NPR radio. I got all the 'stunnedness' out of my system on that one.

There IS NO LIBERAL MEDIA anymore. Not on anything remotely mainstream. Period.

now, as a WH reporter, I'm not sure why he is doing that?

Actually, I know why.....

17. It's all about ratings. Gin up a controversy, a horserace, whatnot
Think about it. How many cable shows would cease to exist if they didn't have their bread and butter topic to yammer about? And if there's no controversy or horserace, artificially create one.

influencing our election....without the benefits of providing any facts,
just momentum for the GOP candidate.

20. You are correct, and it's infuriating to see them do that
It's happening on our local news shows here in MA, too. I can only hope that people who watch will be mobilized into action to prevent a Brown win.

19. It's all about headlines, ratings. If a Dem is winning in MA, there's not much of a story for them..
Edited on Fri Jan-15-10 05:44 PM by ObamaKerryDem
..but a Republican, in Teddy Kennedy's seat, a Democratic seat for decades? Now THAT's news!

They are obsessing over these outlier polls because they play into that narrative. If people think it's a horse race, they will tune in on Tuesday night, which equals ratings. Not to mention their historically corporate interests, which would explain the Republican bias.

It's annoying as hell and I for one will be so glad when this Special Election is over Tuesday and all these assholes have egg on their faces. But then again, if it motivates more Dems/liberals to get out and vote, then maybe it's a good thing?
