Sources: Cyril Wecht Considering Run For Governor
Dr. Cyril Wecht is seriously considering tossing his hat into the ring for governor of Pennsylvania, sources close to Wecht tell KDKA Political Editor Jon Delano.

"Dr. Wecht has the standing to run for any office he chooses to run for," says Allegheny County Democratic Party Chairman Jim Burn.

Burn says Wecht would be a powerful addition to the race.

"His reputation in this party, his reputation as a leader, his reputation as a civil servant who has been out there doing what he thinks is in the best interest of his constituents and his district precedes him," he said.

Wecht would join a crowded Democratic field in the May 18 primary -- a field that already includes two western Pennsylvanians -- Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato and State Auditor General Jack Wagner.

2. What ever happened to that trumped up charge about his using
his office personel for personal use? It was a headline for a day or so and then POOF! I read what was said about this at the time. He had an office clerk drive him to the airport so he didn't have to park his car there for several days! BIG WHOOP! I used to do that all the damn time! It didn't take more than 20 mins to drive to the AP, I didn't have to pay the damn $5 a day to park and I got a cab back which cost all of $4.00!

I grew up in Pgh, and I know it's a lot more than $5 a day to park so I was on Cyril's side on this one. I asked some of my Pgh. relatives what happened with that story & nobody ever heard anything.

I know if I still lived there, I'd vote for him!

5. A governor who makes Chernenko look young is probably not a good idea.

6. He's very personable
I met him at a Lebanese restaurant and then right after that he and his group had seats in front of us at a Gordon Lightfoot concert (of all places!). He has a law degree and is an M.D. He definitely has name recognition in western PA.

7. I don't like that guy
Just gives me the creeps. But, most politicians give me the creeps, so who knows.

9. I never considered him a politician, I always considered him a coroner.
When you saw that red velvet bag on the face of a body coming out of a neighbor's house, you knew that Cyril would be checking it out.

10. I only knew him as a hired gun
He testifies as an expert witness a lot (or used to - I haven't dealt with him in years.)
