Sen. Webb: No HCR Votes Until Brown Seated
Health Care Comes To Screeching Halt - Sen. Webb: No HCR Votes Until Brown Seated

Less than 15 minutes after the race was called for Republican Scott Brown, the first of what could be many conservative Democrats asks for leadership to put the brakes on health care reform.

Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) congratulated Brown on his win and delivered a zinger:

"In many ways the campaign in Massachusetts became a referendum not only on health care reform but also on the openness and integrity of our government process. It is vital that we restore the respect of the American people in our system of government and in our leaders. To that end, I believe it would only be fair and prudent that we suspend further votes on health care legislation until Senator-elect Brown is seated."

62. Well, some were
I had the realistic idea that he was the kind of former Republican, somewhat conservative Democrat who could get elected in Virginia. That is what he turned out to be. I don't blame him for that. That's who he is, and that is pretty much what he ran on. But I don't have to like it.

We keep wanting that: to elect Democrats from red states, and then we all yell when they act like ... democrats from red states. The best thing about it: it gives us majorities, which is important. The bad thing about it is: it makes it impossible for the party to pass anything.

He also voted several times to send the bill back to committee (republican amendments also), which would've killed the bill.

20. And that's why I told the DNC tonight I wasn't giving any money.
If the Democrats, especially in the Senate, get scared and start running away from the Democratic agenda, then I'm not wasting my money on them. I'll support my senator Brown and President Obama. Whoever wins the Democratic primary for the open Ohio senate seat will have my support if he or she doesn't start running to the right.

That's it.

51. MA already pretty much has it so what do they care.
Not the state that should be deciding how we move forward on health care.

And yes, the 47 million people who don't have health care deserve to have it. And the 45,000 whose death certs have just been signed again for the coming year do as well.

Unfortunately though, if the lesson learned from this is a further move to the right, and I suspected it would be, then this country is beyond hope. The "moderate" Democrats are morons.

If the Democrats don't move to the left and regain their base after this, it over.

47. Yes Jim, because the only state in the union that has nearly universal
health care should be the state that decides what the other 49 states should have. Kind of like the senior citizens at the town halls.

What an asinine statement. A lot of the MA voters didn't want the national health care because they already had theirs and didn't want to go through it again. I'm not sure this it the state that should be the bell weather for determining health care.
