and by "we" I mean all the elected D's who have appeared on TV talk shows and the Democratic candidates like Deeds and Coakley. We are doing a very poor job of talking credit for avoiding another big depression.

We've done an even worse job of selling our change program. The support for healthcare reform of any kind had dropped dramatically as has support for cap and trade.

Republicans have stayed on message and by repeating their mantra at every opportunity they have made enough converts to win a few elections.

There's still time to get our planet on the mend.

But Barack needs to be reminded for whom he works. It isn't Petrobras Corp, Blue Cross or Bayer Pharmaceutical.

about something more than just getting himself elected. If he's not going to end the wars, then he needs to visit Iraq and Afghanistan and spend time with the troops. If you are the one signing the orders for soldiers to serve and die, you can't be halfway for a war and halfway against it. He needs to stop spending 2 week vacations in Hawaii. Yes, I know he grew up there. So what? He could have stayed in Washington where he and his family worked for charities and he could have encouraged the rest of us to do so as well--thus highlighting the need for health care reform and showing that he is keenly aware of and compassionate about the millions of Americans who are hurting now. We need to have a leader who calls us to higher purposes and leads by example, and I don't feel that in Pres. Obama now. But it's not too late--I hope.
