The REAL message of the Massachusetts Massacre

The corporate-run Main Stream Media will ignore it, but the REAL message from tonights Massachusetts Massacre is that it was a clear REJECTION of the "third way" DLC wing of the Democratic Party.

In 2008 Americans were energized by Barack Obama, and came out for him in droves during the elections, because Democrats, Independents, and even some Republicans, were HUNGRY for REAL CHANGE.

Unfortunately, whether he is under the spell of a Rasputin - Rahm Emanuel; or, because it is his true nature, President Obama has governed like a timid DLC Corporatist. "That's not change, that's more of the same!"

That failure (refusal) to deliver real change alientated those Independents, and the progressive Democratic base, and those Independents and Progressives stayed home tonight.

The President, and his team, have no one to blame but themselves.

Hopefully, they will learn from it, and work to re-build some bridges with the base, before the mid-terms. Otherwise, 2010 is going to be UGLY!

HER ASS back from vacation and get out there campaigning--and gotten some DLC money to her so she could do it. She would not have lost if she hadn't acted like she didn't care one way or the other whether she won. In fact, none of the bigwig Dems, including Coakley herself, seemed to give a shit. So the voters are supposed to give a shit??? Come on. This was either deliberate, or it was political stupidity. Either way, heads should roll.

I remember back in 1998 when I convinced a mayor from a tiny suburb here in Cuyahoga County to run for commissioner against a guy with over 90% name rec. I knew them both and I knew my guy would be out there every day shaking hands, walking in parades, going to every dinner across the county. I also knew the other guy who was the consummate insider.

I was right, he stayed inside and we stayed outside and kicked butt...

13. I agree with your assessment but

I really doubt that they will see it that way. They are DLCers all the way. Rahm needs to go, at the least, to start to rebuild any kind of trust with the base and with all the American public. They need to admit that they are wrong and with the crew he has around him I can't see him confronting them. A lot of them are long time buddies.

My thoughts:

The future of democracy depends on people rejecting the notion that the Democratic Party should be transmogrified into a watered down, neoconservative version of the Republican Party.

Here's what I would like to see: All the moderate Democrats ("New Democrats") give the Democratic Party back to the democrats; all the moderate Republicans ("Neocons") give the Republican Party back to the republicans. The "moderates" can band together and form their own centrist party, where they'll be free to pursue their bastardized platform. The rest of us return to an honest debate between opposing yet loyal people with the country's best interests in mind.

Here's what bothers me about "Moderates" or "Centrists": I can never figure out if they have a belief system of compromise, or if they have a compromised belief system.

I truly believe that Obama and so many of the Democrats in Congress have tried so hard and bent over backwards to be appeasing to the Republicans and Centrists, that they forgot who got them to where they are and they have as a result lost those people and lost on so many issues. I see the win in MA with Scott Brown as a very strong indication of this. If the Dems and Obama do not start seeing that they need to be true to the droves of people who wanted real change and to then fight for it (Republicans be damned) then they will lose BIG in 2010.
