Reid calls out the GOP WHILE Congratulating Brown

Love it!.... the Dem powers that be recognize that tonight's election was independent angst and NOT a show of support for the GOP. Could this be the END Of the bipartisanship meme so many of you have loathed for the last year? It is clear from what the President and now Reid have said the last few days they are NOT ready to ease up on the Republicans.

Reid Statement On Massachusetts Election
Washington, D.C.—Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid released the following statement this evening in reaction to the results of the Massachusetts special election:

“The people of Massachusetts have spoken. We welcome Scott Brown to the Senate and will move to seat him as soon as the proper paperwork has been received. I want thank Senator Paul Kirk for his tremendous service over the last few months. His service to the people of Massachusetts in the place of his friend, Senator Ted Kennedy, was brief but honorable.

“While Senator-elect Brown’s victory changes the political math in the Senate, we remain committed to strengthening our economy, creating good paying jobs and ensuring all Americans can access affordable health care. We hope that Scott Brown will join us in these efforts. There is much work to do to address the problems Democrats inherited last year, and we plan to move full speed ahead.

“Regardless of the size of their minority caucus, Senate Republicans have always had an obligation to join us in governing our nation through these difficult times. Today’s election doesn’t change that; In fact it is now more important than before for Republicans to work with us rather than against us if we are to find common ground that improves Americans’ lives.”

5. Again, the goal isn't to actually GET the GOP to vote our way....

.... although we wouldn't complain if they started ... the goal is to CONTINUE to remind the American people that the reason stuff isn't getting done on Capitol Hill is because of the Grand Obstructionist Party.

9. No one is buying that message anymore.

When you have a near super majority in the Senate - or had - and a large majority in the House, and a Democrat in the White House, the "blame the other party for everything" strategy wears pretty thin on the ears of voters, particularly independent voters.

Independent voters are, I think, more inclined to see the problem in terms of the lack of courage and bold leadership by those holding majorities in every branch of government, rather than in terms of a tiny party that only 21% of Americans say they even identify with. (That number is, sadly, probably on the rise)

Trust me, with Congress at a 23% approval rating and the new Republican hero NOT even claiming to be a Republican in his victory speech, there's still LOTS of room to blame the GOP.

Yes yes, there's lots of room to score some political points on the stupidity and ineptitude of the GOP, and I don't mean to imply that we shouldn't do that.

But that's different then blaming the GOP for all that is wrong in Washington. If you lead it, you own it. Democrats need to take a look in a mirror.
