In fact if he is elected president the dems will still want him to come to the caucus meetings, just

I'm sorry politics comes down to this, but trust me, any political strategist worth his or her weight in salt is going to tell you that you don't want the massively old white guy "Droopy(tm)" candidate as your presidential nominee.

4. not going to happen... Lieberman is too pro-choice and too pro-gay rights and too pro-environment

perhaps not enough to satisfy most Democrats - but way more than enough to make him completely unacceptable to the Fundamentalist and the tea-baggers and other "social conservatives" who now hold more influence in the GOP than ever.

We now know that McCain really did want Lieberman for V.P. and Lieberman would have almost certainly accepted. But, this would have been completely unacceptable to the base who dominate the party and now dominate it even more. So he ended up with Sarah Palin instead - real red meat. But I doubt that Sarah Palin will be the nominee either. But it will be somebody who the funamentalist, the tea-baggers and other social conservatives rally behind. That group now dominates the party and they control airwaves, right-wing blogosphere, and the shopping mall foot soldiers.

He just doesn't have the Joe-mentum to carry a ticket - he best in the number 2 slot, so he can stab the head nominee in the back afterwards.
