Why President Obama should pull a S.P., pack up and go back to Shy-Town.......
I know that he will not do this but I think he should. We have the FDL and other Progressives saying that President Obama should do this and that or they will find a candidate to primary him in 2012. We have the teabaggers that never wanted this "Black" man in the first place, holding up vile signs and giving (with some Democrats help, mind you) the Liberal Lion-Teddy Kennedy's seat to a racist, sexist, teabagging....pig, Scott Brown. We have the nay-sayers that Obama can never do good enough, no manner what he does tomorrow, today or in the future. We have infighting in his so-called party and internal issues with his race in this party if he ever was to bring out...he would be accused of race-baiting (i.e., so 2000st is sickening).

His hair is getting gray, he has less time to spend with the three MOST IMPORTANT people in his life....Michelle, Sasha and Malia. He has to deal with the stress of living under a microscope everyday with his family because of stupid thoughts of certain people and the harm it could cause to his family. He has to deal with the lost of his TRUE FRIEND the late Ted Kennedy's seat because he tried to push a health care bill through for people that have NO HEALTH CARE, currently. Every move he makes is spun into a negative light by the "liberal media" and some of the so-called Democrats that are suppose to be on his side. I could go on but I will not.....

This is why I did I thought long and hard about voting for President Obama initially. I knew as an African-American, as soon as he did not do everything the majority (not other African-Americans like myself) wanted, they would toss him to the corner and be out to hurt his Presidency. The expectations were TOO HIGH and the mess he received was IMPOSSIBLE to deal with in one year. I knew that as soon as he took one step off the mandated path....many would turn on him...as some are doing here on DU and many other progressive sites, right now. I never expected the Teabaggers to be with him. With the lost tonight in MA, it will only get worse.

I would not blame President Obama if he was to pack his lovely family and high tail it back to Chicago. He did not make this mess that we are in but he is expected to fix it overnight (in one short year). If President Obama was not the race that he was, he would have had time to deal with this mess, more time....I totally believe this. For him, his time was really four months to get it done. The tide started turning against President Obama after this time and has been moving downhill since.

7. Health Care, just the way it is currently.......
That is a start. It is better than many in my community have right now. It would help many people go take care of their health issues instead of avoiding them because they are working without healthcare or cannot afford the healthcare offered at their employer due to out of pocket costs.

The current health care bill is a HUGE step in the right direction to fix this problem but this will never be done now, thanks to the voters of MA....who are majority Caucasian and have a state Universal Health Care plan in their state.

34. No he's not weak, but neither is he God or Superman
It's just that too many of the EA (European-American) senators are owned lock, stock and barrel by the insurance companies and other powers-that-be and don't want real change.
And unfortunately, Congress is a co-equal branch of government and he cannot force them to do anything.
And in case you or anybody else is going to start with the bullshit about how Bush was able to get his way so easily, remember that Bush was protecting the status quo and that's damn easy to do in Washington.
Real change is more difficult because it threatens the comfortable.
Many of the same conservadems who resist Obama's efforts just lay down and rolled over for Bush and gave him everthing thing he wanted.
I think there are two racial subtexts to what's going on.
Number one, blacks in the U.S. are always held to a higher standard than whites, we always heve to be twice as good for half the recognition.
Number two, there are some white congresscritters who really enjoy being an obstacle to this president because deep down they have trouble accepting direction and leadership from a black man.

5. You're about to be called a racist.....or said to be playing the race card...
Just the way folks reacted with Obama when he dared speak of the arrest
of Dr. Gates in Cambridge, MA, last year.

Or just the way I was, when I posted these threads:

Here at DU, if you're Black your opinion doesn't count,
just like your vote didn't really count during the election,
and just like your vote won't count in the future,
and just like Health Care reform, if not perfect, is not for you.

Good Luck!

12. He was supposed to be the Michael Jordan of politics,
a Tiger Woods (before his fall), a Denzel Washington; oscar worthy,
the MLK of the peace movement, and of course the new Mandala of the world...

So with everyone, from Dems to the GOP holding his feet into the fire,
after 30 years of consistent government fuck ups,
and dealing with a congress elected by voters,
he gets all of the blame for everything....
you know, cause he was supposed to be the Perfect Black guy,
the history maker, the unmovable force,
maybe even to some, the messiah.....
so he should do everything just so,
at all times.

No recognition on how Iraq is shaping up,
no recognition on the economy he's rescued from the brink,
no recognition for his work on the enviromnent,
on Nukes, or his work the world stage,
his new supreme court appointee,
or anything else he's done.....

He's just proclaimed a failure, straight up.

He's not a leader, they say.
He's "bought and paid for" they yell,
He's a corporatist they claim,
He's a puppet they holler...
He's just like Bush they insist....
and he's a this, and a that, and whatever else comes to mind.

Watch it...cause Haiti's next.
He'll get the blame for that too.....
the fault won't lie on the earthquake,
or past administrations policies toward Haitians,
that left them without infrastructure,
but instead, it will be what he did or didn't do,
cause he didn't go and help land the airplanes..
cause we were supposed to rescue 3 million people,
just like that....real quick and perfectly, without incident.
They think that might help turn Black folks against him,
so you know that's a go!

And plus remember, with another attempted or accomplished terrorist attacks,
it will be 3 strikes, so he's out anyways.

So, there's not a lot to look forward to
or any hope that he will get any respect,
or any assistance about anything anytime soon.

First, as usual :yourock:

Second, "The Perfect Black Man".....wow, I could not have thought of a better line myself. The comparison to him and Tiger Woods at this point is scary but so very true in certain individuals eyes.

Here is one for you, "They build him up, for they could take him down.....hard and fast". As WE know, in the end, it is meant to never have again another "Black" man to behold this much POWER. So, they will question him, threaten him, belittle him, throw a scandal at him, call him a failure, call him a screw up, wonder why they "ever" believed in him.........and finally, vote him out of office.....

15. I DISAGREE 100% -- Obama is too much a politician and THAT is his flaw.
Totally disagree...the problem at its core is that Obama is just a yet another politician...a say anything that is popular politician but go always with establishment..he wants to play pattycake with everyone and in the end get NOTHING concrete done in the process. You have to get tough at times and NEVER compromise...Obama eagerly compromises every chance he gets primarily in favor of the rich/corporations and finances (which includes wars -- cuz war is profit). Sure he understands the WA lingo but it breaks my heart that he was just a puppet (for the most part) like the rest of them. He is a leader but not the type of leader America desperately wants, nor the leader he campaigned that he would be. He in essence is a politician...selling a magical story. He is no different than the mass majority in history. He is no better, nor worse than any other past president but he is also, like most presidents, FORGETTABLE.

As the defeats mount and the party continues to see who he really is i think there will be more MA's in the coming months and hopefully Obama will grow some balls and start acting like someone who cares about core principals and godamn fight for them! The democratic party needs a REAL leader to unify them...Right now the party just runs around like chickens without their heads. *sigh*

The MA loss is no surprise and i was indifferent by the outcome....we had 60 and nothing was accomplished...with 59 lets hope we can regain a heartbeat.

Let me say this. The majority can continue to try and take President Obama down. They can continue to belittle him, talk crap about him, say that he has not done and will not do this and that. It is their FREE SPEECH right. BUT..........

Remember, WE are the people that did not turn our back on Clinton during the entire Monica scandal, the ones that stood by Clinton when people the likes of most of you joined in with all attempts to impeach him over a freaking affair.....WE, the people that stood in line for HOURS to vote for Gore, did the same for Kerry and walked the streets to talk our neighbors to go out and vote for Obama.....WE, are the people that you continue to take votes, for GRANTED.....

WE, are not stupid. WE, will continue to stand by and support President Obama. WE, might not go out in numbers in 2012 if we feel as if HE is being taken for granted. Still believe me when I say this.....you, the majority, will never hold a Supermajority or a Presidency again, if you continue to take OUR vote for granted...if you continue on the path of belittling the FIRST African-American President...hell for that reason, you will not even hold a majority every again....WHY, do you ask?

WE, will just stay home. WE, are used to living in difficult times. WE, have learned how to live with the up and downs of life. WE, know how to deal with continual crap and make it by the power of prayer and hope.

Remember this as you continue to try and hold down our opinions and our FIRST African-American President, as we will not forget this either. Also, we WILL REMEMBER CLEARLY who not to vote for and/or just to stay home for in 2010, 2012 and beyond.......... :patriot:

If the shoe fits.............

I swear someone really need to start a Progressive, Democratic, Independent, Website for people that are free to express their opinion on the facts of the state of the mood of this country right now.....then allowing consistent smell and lighting of gasoline (i.e. fire) to go on, on one side and demand for the other to go sit very quietly in the corner, smell the fumes and burn.......:nuke:

23. You. Think. He. Should. Quit. What in the history of his character makes you think for a moment...
... that he would?

Kayla, I often read your posts with bafflement. You make provocative statements, and when they are challenged (as I am doing now) you claim that DUers are telling you to STFU *because* you are black and your opinion does not count here. Baloney! Your opinion counts as much as mine, but if you say things like Barack Obama should tuck his tail between his legs and run home to Chicago, please do expect to be challenged.

I can't tell how old you are. Were you around when the ONLY president in the entire history of the United States of America resigned? Richard Nixon resigned because he was a criminal and was about to be impeached for cause.

You periodically remind us that you are African American. Okay. Are you really THAT ambivalent about Barack Obama being the first African-American president?

This Irish-American voted for Barack Obama without a trace of hesitation because I believed in his character and his judgment, and I still do.

Irish-Americans in my parents' generation were so proud that Jack Kennedy got elected-- they would have been heartsick if he had tucked his tail between his legs and run back to Hyannis Port when things got good and rough in Washington. They rightly would have felt betrayed.

Politics is a nasty, rough business. It takes toughness, and frankly a huge ego, to run for President. And if you should win, you better be tough. You better have a thick skin. You have to be willing to sacrifice both yourself AND your family on the altar of that ambition, and your spouse better be on board with that.

All presidents learn on the job; they all make mistakes, especially at first; there is nothing that can fully prepare you for this job except actually doing it. I still trust Obama's character and judgment. I think he can politically survive this -- unless we betray him ourselves. I take issue with the DUers who want to shred him day after day for not being superhuman and perfect, for not having a magic wand to wave over all our troubles. I don't ever, ever imagine that another human being is "perfect" -- I'm 62 and I gave that up with childhood. If other Dems can't grasp that, it's up to people like you and me to be grounded in reality and help keep the work moving forward.

This president has what it takes. It's more nasty than ever in Washington DC but I believe he can learn from his mistakes and stay the course.

Hekate

Don't agree but it is your opinion........ I still believe that the President should tell a majority of people were they can take their opinions, go home, relax and enjoy his life with his family. He will not, I know.

Still, I can say that after this post-election period, I have learn MANY HARD shocking lessons about Democrats and Republicans. Neither party are too much different from the other. And neither party has my best interest at heart or many people I know in my community.

I think it is high time to start thinking about starting a new party or just sitting it out next time and say, forget it all together.

28. no matter his race, he's coming across as weak & ineffectual with all this BS about "bipartisanship"
and the excuse that he "hasn't had time to do everything" is BS.

He's had time to keep the foxes Geithner and Summers guarding the hen house of the public treasury.
He's had time to let Max Baucus and the Emmanuels guide the direction of the health care "reform."
He's had time to meet behind closed doors and make secret deals with pharmaceutical bigwigs.
He's had time to say we must look forward and not even pretend to bring war criminals to justice.

Even now, he wants a "bipartisan" "panel" to study ways to reduce the deficit--heaven forbid that anything bold or innovative would ever be proposed and then eloquently explained and defended to make the public want that bold initiative so strongly that Congress would have to pass it.

I'd go on, but frankly I don't much care anymore. He wants "bipartisanship" instead of really sticking his neck out on bold initiatives that, frankly, 3/4 of the country would get behind. He dropped the "public option" like a hot potato, falsely claiming he "never campaigned on it" and insincerely "promising" that he would not sign a bill without one.

The voters see their efforts squandered and their votes taken for granted. They've been left in the dust because their offices aren't the size of a middle-class home and their bank accounts aren't the size of several third-world economies. The election in MA should be a clue: the voters who put Obama in office simply don't care anymore. The same number who voted for McCain voted for Brown--but the number who voted for Obama was quite a bit lower in the case of Coakley -- therefore, I conclude that people who voted for Democrats in the past simply don't care anymore. When the 2-party system has effectively merged into one big Capitalist Party, why should they?

This is quite possibly the most asinine suggestion I've seen on DU this week. And that's saying something.

Everyone has a opinion on how the President is doing his job but no one is giving he credit for what he has done. If all the Chiefs do not appreciate the job that President Obama has done so far....I do not care if they are Independents or Democratic Chiefs....let them step into the Firepit and see if they could do any better, given the current situation. If they are not willing to do that, they should just shut it and the peanut gallery criticisms.

We have the progressives, who stayed home. Now let them whine and cry about not having a health care plan that's pure enough for them.

In a a couple of months, it's going to be the beginning of "a blood-bath" in Afghanistan. Further, if we don't keep the bribes coming in Iraq, the Sunnis may be in the mood for an uprising.

38. Not going to happen and it shouldn't
I seriously doubt that Joe Biden would be given an easier time and I think, with his eloquence, calm personality, and charm, Obama is more likely to succeed.

He knew what he was getting into, as did Michelle, and the world did not end when he was reduced to only 59 Democrats. The fact is, that in 2008, the highest amount we could have gotten was 59 - and that required every competitive race to be won by the Democrat.

I do understand your concern for his welfare. I sometimes wonder why any politician works as hard as the best do and take the grief they get. (Consider Kerry, who could be writing an autobiography of a fascinating life spending more time with his wonderful wife). But that is not why they got into this - they want to make the world better - the same motivation for a Harvard Law graduate to return to the Southside of Chicago, rather than working in DC or Wall Street.

39. Obama was well aware of the mess he would face...
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 12:52 PM by SaveOurDemocracy
when he decided to run for President. There were no surprises. Even the economic collapse, who didn't see that coming?

It would be ridiculous for me to claim that race doesn't matter to some idiot groups in this country... but, that wouldn't be his base; the people who came out in record numbers to support and vote for Obama.

He had a mandate from the people, they wanted him to succeed, and were willing to work with him to make that happen.

We were ALL aware of the massive damage that had been done to our Country and to our Constitution.

We had already shown that we were willing partners; that we would work 'round the clock supporting and getting his message out.

Instead, we were left outside the gates. Left watching, as the speeches that so stirred us to 'hope' morphed into empty rhetoric. Watching, as the very groups he promised to take on, were ushered in to advise and mold policy.

We didn't leave him! HE LEFT US!! We may be disappointed and cynical, but we're not stupid. Disliking this Administrations policies and direction does not mean we favor RePukes. President Obama can restore our confidence, win our avid support by leading based on established DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLES! It's his choice.

Also...

Are you claiming that the "liberal media" and some of the so-called Democrats that are suppose to be on his side" would have been more forgiving of Hillary Clinton had she won the election??

It's NOT ABOUT RACE!!
