To win Coakley needed to run on changIng congresses direction
Being seen as another senator going with the flow does not assuage populist anger.

1. The populists have what they want then
a change in direction - 41 Republicans.

Congratulations to all angry populists.

5. Maybe they are happy.
Now everyone wants to know what they are upset about and just may try to address these gripes.

6. They can sit home and wait for things to be "delivered" to them
like they usually do. Then complain how the "corporatists" always win.

The "corporatists" never stay home and sit on their ass or complain. They are up and at it again, even when they are down.

We didn't even get one year and the "base" is sitting home complaining that not enough was "delivered" to them.

7. What are we supposed to do?
I called my Senators to offer my views on the necessity of a public option. But Lieberman forced them to swallow his edict too. Seriously what can I do? I don't want to sit on my ass and complain. Tell me what my options are.

9. Keep at it over long years
Look at how the Republicans do things!

So we didn't get the public option. We have to keep at it to fight for another day.

Look at the Repukes, they got TK's seat! they were not sitting home nursing their "disappointment" in the Republicans for not getting the Presidency or whatever.

Imagine us getting McCain's or the like. Well we never will if people who claim to be the "base" stay home because not enough was delivered to them by the Democrats. I can hardly picture these disappointed disillusioned progressives getting off their entitled asses to work for a Democrat opposing McCain - they are too busy calling the Democrats sellouts.

And that adds to why it is so hard for Democrats to have "spines." They know their support is weak, apparently.

10. My senators and reps are public option supporters
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 09:30 AM by dkf
I backed a president who said he was too. Turns out he wasn't exactly for it after all.

All I can do is to donate to primary bad senators and reps that aren't in my state. I will try to replace people who don't live up to what I expect. That includes Obama if need be.

11. Like I say you want it all
In a country that is about 50% Republican.

then once the primary is over what are you going to do? Stay home and nurse your disappointment?

And the President and your congresspeople can't do it alone. They have to deal with the rest of Congress.

2. Remember what Pfeiffer said about 10 days ago?
White House aides believe a lot of the liberal angst about health care will go away once the president actually signs a bill. And to the extent that the Democrats have a problem motivating their core voters, they've got time to fix it.

"We're not overly concerned about these things, first and foremost because there isn't an election tomorrow, not an election the next day," says Dan Pfeiffer, White House communications director.

Oops there goes an election.

3. No.
To win, Coakley needed to run PERIOD. She needed to run, instead of going on vacation during the middle of the campaign. She had a 30 point lead coming out of the primaries. People knew what she stood for when they elected her to run. She just took the voters for granted, and they punished her for it.
