A Rahm Too Far :
Time For Obama Voters To Pull The Plug

A little over a month ago, I wrote a piece called Badfellas about how Rahm Emanuel and President Obama had killed health care reform. At that time, I thought we'd end up with a trigger. Oh, I recall those optimistic days fondly.

As cynical and realistic as I was, I never thought it would get down to this...

The White House wants Reid to hand Joe Lieberman the farm.
An aide briefed on discussions with the White House says that there would be no story if Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel hadn't interceded. The aide confirmed an account, reported by Huffington Post, that Emanuel visited Reid personally, telling him to cut a deal with Lieberman.

Then the aide provided more detail.

Emanuel didn't just leave it to Reid to find a solution. Emanuel specifically suggested Reid give Lieberman the concessions he seeks on issues like the Medicare buy-in and triggers

To use a trendy Tiger Woods analogy, this is the 101th mistress -- the time to stop defending and start packing.

This is what a lot of us on DU are thinking!

1. Now they will have to hand Snowe the farm
Unless they really want to use the nuclear option. Which they are probably hesitant to do, knowing that Republicans could be in control again one day. So I doubt that Brown's election inspires them to do that.

3. Haven't you heard?
It's all about "compromise, consensus and bipartisanship, even if that meant only incremental change".

4. Well now it's with Snowe rather than Lieberman
Thanks to the independents of Mass.

9. Another paean to timidity.
It's really simple: use reconciliation, push through a strong Public Option and you won't have to worry that Republicans "could be in control again one day".

In other words, quit playing to lose.

2. Rahm must go. Kaine too.
These idiots brought us here, and we can't expect them to get us back to where we once belonged.

5. Oh I see the "un-recommend" group is up and unrecommending today as usual.
You really think Rahm should stay? Then you deserve what you get in the next 3 years! This is NOT change we can believe in!

6. Rahm is just a reflection as to how Corporate President Obama is at heart.
That and the fact that Obama is "risk adverse" when it comes to confronting Wall Street, The Pentagon and/or the corporations comprising the MIC.

President Obama has made his choice, he is the CEO of the Corporate United States of America.

Corporations are people too! Their needs over-ride that of the unwashed masses who only serve as a "labor pool" from witch the ruling class has to choose from on a multi-national scale.

8. This year will define President Obama's vision. He must start fresh and not care about feelings!
Remember Bush:

President Obama REMEMBER YOUR BASE!

16. I pray for Obama to change, he could. I think this painful defeat of his friend Teddy's former seat
in a very liberal state should truly awaken him if he is on our side as I still hope he is, despite the way it appears this past year. I give them another year, grudgingly, before I bolt from the party if that's what they've become (Repub-lite).

Geithner is another UBER-mistake!

14. Don't be silly! Rahm is the evil Sphengali figure who forces poor, innocent Barack
to do all the things we do not like.

The things we like, on the other hand, are purely Barack's doing.

Get with the program!

17. We know he doesn't force President Obama but his influence has been noticeable!
It is a wake up call for President Obama to set his vision with fresh insight! Time for Rahm to go and someone else to come in - Or is it time to form another more liberal Party?

All he good things that we like are Obama's doing, though.

15. Heard of a Hurricaine? It's a RahmiKaine.
Those two, Rahm & Tim Kaine, are horribly inappropriate for this party. I never 'appreciated' the ways of hard-core DLC'er Rahm before his current gig, for he seemed to tout a 'what's good for business is good for America" attitude, and Kaine couldn't wipe the sweat off Dean's forehead...

20. To see Howard Dean treated the way he was, without Obama defending his incredible work, was a key
action, along with Rahm & Geithner being given the keys to the kingdom...

24. That was the writing on the wall
The way Howard Dean was cast aside was despicable. Interesting that Obama was more willing to reach out to Republicans than he was willing to reach out to Dean. Oh, but we're not supposed to notice that. It's all about building a team of rivals. Hey, Mr. President, how's that working for you?

26. There were plenty of red flags every bit as bad or worse during the primaries,
but no one wanted to hear about them.

Donnie McClurkin? KirbyJon Caldwell? Austan Goolsbee? Jason Furman?

Hey! Look! Over there! Look what cool shades Obama's wearing!
