Y'know, in the tradition of Charles Mathias, Lincoln Chafee and so on. After all, I guess he'd have to move to the left (or the center, really) if he wants to win re-election in MA.

Yeah, I'm trying to find a silver lining in this clusterfuck.

2. No, because he's stupid...he really thinks tea-bagging is what
his constituents want...they were just angry and wanted change.

3. They days of Nelson Rockefeller and Thomas Dewey are a long time gone.
Brown might have tried to make himself look like one, but I doubt he is.

21. that's the correct answer
unless he decides to use his win as a platform for a Presidential run in 2012.

7. I dunno, wasn't he somewhat liberal as a state senator?
Leading to the obvious accusations of flip flopping in order to win his party's nomination. I guess the question is if he votes as he campaigned or as he did in the state senate.

10. So did a lot of Democrats, that's how it passed.
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 03:12 PM by hughee99
The repukes can't pass anything in MA. The MA senate has 34 Dems and 5 repukes at the moment, the MA house has 144 Dems and 16 repukes right now.

All in all, he's capable of voting with the Dems, but the repukes will put armed "guards" on him if necessary (though I doubt it will be), to keep him in line.

8. I think he will

But keep in mind the guy probably also wants to be President. It's going to be fun to watch him try to juggle the interests of the state and the interests of the tea-baggers.

11. After that marathon speech early this morning, I'd add...
his interest to be POTUS. He went on so long, even Keith turned him off.

Brown is a male Palin.

22. I have a distinct feeling that he will run for Pres either in 2012 or 2016.

Unfortunately, he's much more "presidential" and charismatic than Palin, but I do agree that the two have certain similarities.

12. How on earth

Will this guy govern to the far right and expect to hold his job in that state? Get real.

Just as the Dems that were elected in the deep South are very moderate/conservative, the same goes for Mass and other blue states.

He's against this health care bill...it's easy to be against something no one in the English speaking world understands despite the mass hysteria created by the TeaBaggers.

But on other issues (corporate accountability, regulation, environment, religious affairs, civil libs) I have to think he's going to be less than shitty on these issues.

17. No chance. In fact...
a "liberal 'Rockefeller' Republican" would be far to the left of almost any of today's Democratic office holders. There is already a buzz going around that his real goal is the GOP prez nomination in 2012. And his handlers are not stupid. In order to get that he must remain on the far right. If he's running for prez in 2012 rather than for reelection in Massachusetts, then he will have no reason whatsoever to become a so-called Rockefeller Republican.
