A FB Debate I am having has turned ugly
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 05:38 PM by LaydeeBug
a childhood neighbor friended me and we were chatting last night. He told me he was in the Army now and getting ready to redeploy to Iraq. I told him I'd send him care packages, and will work steadfastly to get him and the rest of our servicemen and women home, safe, sound, and soon. I'm thinking so far, so good. Right?

Holy Jesus H. Christ on a cracker he TEARS into me about how I have to support the war. It happened so fast. he is telling me I don't know what I am talking about, and HE *knows* why we're there, and if I could only understand... I told him I was all ears. tell me what I don't know. He cites that he is in the Army and can't tell me everything, blah, blah, blah. Ok, kewl, tell me what you're comfortable with. he starts... "well you know our country can't function without oil" "hold up. are you telling me that we are over there fighting in a desert so that some private corporation can sell the oil back to our country for profit, so that we can 'function'?"

I am not kidding you as I live and breathe, these were the next words he wrote... "Isn't that reason enough?"

The tirade, the F bombs, the other cussing, flying through the screen. It was unbelievable. At one point I mention to him that W cut their combat pay, and he tell me Obama did. I said No he did not. More cussing. More f bombs, you get the drift.

Then he tells me he is going to provide me with a link to Obama saying that he wanted to cut military benefits, and after MUCH PRODDING (because apparently there was much to do over this story that I'd never heard of) he sends me a link today. Mind you, this fight went into the wee hours of this morning. I've been catatonic all day because of it, but this really made me laugh. This is his 'PROOF' that Obama wants to cut military benefits.

1. It's really scary how sociopathic most R's are when you peel back the first layer of coating
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 05:38 PM by rudy23
Some high-functioning, respected members of society are on the same page with some of history's most murderous dictators once you get to hear their beliefs.

eta: this includes many of my friends and family. Some self-labeled Democrats, too.

11. it's weird. Like "appease my spite, or I'll call you a coward" leaves me wondering
who the real coward is.

14. Exactly. Their best defense is a good offense.
They are usually guilty of a good deal of kneejerk projections. You can tell a lot about them by what they project onto others.

3. Scary, but it is the reason we are there, and even scarier - Republicans agree, and like it that way
They think we should be over there getting oil, saying, as a "friend" did to me, that as long as she can fill up the tank of her (very large) SUV, she is fine with a war for oil, since we deserve it......
(BTW, I have an old CR-V myself so I am not an SUV-hater. So I guess I'm a hypocrite, but I do want to downsize my car when I have the money for a new one.)

it's amazing ...
the original post was convoluted and incoherent, with enough key phrases to whip the mindless into a frenzy. Except for one guy called 'sandrat' who seemed to be on to that deceptive OP. Thanks. :hi:

would have gotten an affirmative from your childhood friend too.

The lack of empathy and ability to recognize they could be the target except accident of birth is startling
and saddening.

WELCOME TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA Press 1 for English. Press 2 to disconnect until you learn to speak English. And remember only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, JESUS CHRIST. And the AMERICAN SOLDIER. One died for your soul, the other for your freedom. If you agree...copy and paste in your status... and enough said!!!

We could have, like, invaded in 1777. Just imagine how free we'd be by now!

I considered pointing out there is neither an official language of the US nor were we founded on Xtianity, and thought of composing a response in my update, but then I thought better of it.

It's bullshit, and he knows it. he sent me back "lmao, your to much" to which I almost responded, "No, LMAO, You're too much" but then thought better of it. :eyes:

24. IMO, you should leave it and him alone,. you or he can not change his orders. Why he is going
is a parlor game at this point. He may have a gut feeling he is not going to make it back. If he does, he is probably right. Give him a hug and tell him you wish him well and leave it at that.

Army Awesome
i dont care about democrat or republicans im just trying to raise a family in this economy i like the competition with u i love the confrontation im a dundalk boy but to be honest i dont know enough to argue about polotics some things have happend we dont agree on and thats cool last night i had a bad time with my son and my deployment its hard for him and my emotions got in the way with my diciplin and im sorry

LayDeeBug January 21 at 7:19am
Hey AA~
I never thought for a second, even at the height of our arguing, that we would not still be friends. I like the friendly competition too, so you can feel free to let loose. However, questioning my patriotism or saying I don't support the troops because I don't support the war, was crossing the line a bit. It's ok though. I'm a big girl, and I can take it. :)

As for the politics thing, I've called out both sides when the story pans out, but I have to tell you, it doesn't on your military bennies story. If he were to EVEN TRY it, all hell would break loose. The bad news is, your story isn't true. The Good news is (and more importantly) your bennies aren't going to get cut.

I know that deployment must be tough. I can only hope and pray that you come home safely, along with the rest of our military personnel. think about this Brian... what if someone showed up in your back yard to fight you. How long would you fight back? the answer? UNTIL THEY LEAVE YOUR FREAKING BACKYARD. We are in their backyard. they are not in ours.

Couple that with the military industrial complex (Blackwater, KB&R, anyone?) who have been bilking the American Taxpayer while our treasure (that's you) assume the risk. It's bullshit.

Anyhoo, there are no worries old friend. I hope your son feels better soon. More than that I hope and pray for an end to ALL the deployments. We don't need to build a base over there bigger than Vatican City. We need to rebuild New Orleans.

Love ya,
The LayDee

ok LayDeeBug got it and i respect youre opinion. Question youre patriotism i still do. We fight so you can have youre own opinion and thats great but why would you protest this war to an Amarican Soldier who is going to war. Im not mad but cofused HELP ME. We fight for you little respect is all we ask. what im trying to say is a good American would not protest what im ready to die for.So patriot of the year is not you. But what i did was wrong to i need more diciplin someone that seen oure conversation told me something. Only .97 percent of the population ever wore the uniform of this country that leaves 99.3 percent that will never understand. It is my job to handle that i was wrong and lost my military bearings and for that i am verry sorry. If you want i will post that i was wrong. Please dont forget i love this country and will go and do what ever they ask. Also thank you i have learned something behind all this and i hope we can keep in touch during my deployment love Brian

Army Awesome, I support and respect you, I do not support the war. In fact BECAUSE I support and respect you, I do not support the war.

Do you think I wrote the right thing?

29. Tell him you'll visit his grave and pour oil on it and plant an Exxon flag for good measure
Since he is admitting he wants to "serve" the oil multinationals, he should consider the oil ceremony something he would be proud of.
